Pain Free North West Soft tissue therapy for people and horses. Based in Derbyshire and Cheshire. I provide Bowen therapy for both people and horses.

Bowen is a neuro-muscular treatment from Australia. It is a gentle, non-invasive but highly effective approach to relieving backache, frozen shoulder, ankle and knew problems and sports injuries. Rolling of the muscle, ligament or tendon stimulates the nervous system allowing the brain to talk more efficiently to the body. This releases areas of tension, reduces inflammation and eliminates pain and stiffness. Bowen is suitable for adults and children, including newborn babies and the elderly.

I treated a 69 year old lady earlier today. She has had long term back pain and was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in her spine 5 years ago. She has tried treatments with chiropodist, osteopath and chiropractor without success.
She told me that she played badminton with her grandson last week for the first time in a long time. She was able to bend down to pick up the shuttlecock without thinking about it.
Her grandson told her "Nana, Ive never seen you move so fast!"

This weekend I attended the fantastic Energy In Motion online summit run by Functional Horse Training by Thirza Hendriks . So much information to digest and I'm looking forward to watching the replays again to make sure I've really got to grips with the main points.
One of the key things I took away from the first of yesterday's lectures was that combating metabolic dysfunction in horses is about so much more than just restricting their food intake and increasing their exercise. It's the sign of a very stressed system and you need to look at the whole horse and reduce chronic stress to deal with it effectively.

So lovely to catch up with Jemma Aigner - Balancing Harmony last week 😁

It takes a team to keep a horse feeling their best - its not just about bodywork, its the tack, their feet, the rider, their environment. Everything needs to be optimised to keep the horse feeling as good as possible.

We now have my beautiful LM saddle at its optimum fit, we've got a new bit and bridle and I'm committing to getting myself organised to give my own horses some regular Bowen!!

Constantly working on the environment side of things to help them feel as relaxed and happy as possible!

Looking forward to see where the future takes us!

So lovely to catch up with Jemma Aigner - Balancing Harmony last week 😁

It takes a team to keep a horse in their best shape. Its not just about bodywork, its about their feet, their tack, their environment, friends and forage.

We've got my beautiful LM saddle adjusted to the best fit, Dude has a new bridle and bit. I'm committing to giving him some regular Bowen sessions and I'm doing my utmost to create the best environment to keep him happy.

Excited to see what the future holds for us!

How does Bowen work?

The bones in your body float in a sea of soft tissue – they are held in position by tension from your muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia.

Think of you body as a suspension bridge, the deck being your bones, and the cables your soft tissue. If the tension of the cables are all incorrect the deck will be mis-aligned and “wonky”.

Bowen Technique straightens “your bridge” by adjusting the soft tissue in your body and thus restore function and reduce pain. It has the same philosophy as osteopathy and chiropractic, but comes from the problem from a different angle. When the skeleton is aligned the body works, tension and duress are removed from structures that effect the nervous and endocrine systems, (electrical and chemical controls of the body). Thus the body can function as it is designed too.

The “Bowen” moves are designed to activate the mechanoreceptors (nerve endings) in the body’s tissues. Activating these receptors creates a neurological feedback loop, that affects the tissues getting them to return to the correct tension. This is what straightens your “bridge”.
