Even though we are having a temporary face-to-face pause from next week, there is still in-person breastfeeding support in the area, if you need it.

There are also several helplines run by very knowledgeable and kind trained volunteers. They see you and are ready to help. 💗

**Important news **

I would like to announce that sadly this week (Thursday 28th March), will be the last week of New Milton breastfeeding support group, being held at New MIlton memorial centre.

I am currently looking at a more suitable venue as currently, there are only a few that attend, it’s costly to run and for practical reasons.

Online support will continue and this page will remain the same. We are not going anywhere. We are always here to help and support is offered.

Please keep an eye out for updates but any changes will be advertised.

I apologies for this disappointing news but be reassured, this it is only temporary.

I look forward to seeing you soon.

Much love

Mel xx

🤱Weekly Breastfeeding Signpost

Particularly in the early days, parents may face challenges breastfeeding their baby for medical reasons. Baby may not be able to latch to the breast or perhaps the mother requires extra postpartum care that means she is not able to be with her baby for feeds.
In these situations there are alternatives to bottles that might work, which is beautifully illustrated in this short video by the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers (ABM). 💗

The free National Breastfeeding Helpline is extending its hours to cover the night later this month!

This is such an incredible and vital service offered by the kindest and most knowledgeable volunteers.
The night can be a lonely time, particularly if you are having feeding troubles. But the NBH sees you mamas, and they are here to support you. 💗

🤱 Weekly Breastfeeding Signpost

One of the top worries of new parents is whether their baby is getting enough milk, as we can't see it in the same way we can in a bottle. But all the signs are there... it's just about knowing what to look for. 👀

Here is a great video from the Global Media Health series that explores this concern and offers tips to increase supply.
Keep an eye out for frequent wet and dirty nappies because if it's coming out then it's going in! 😉

If you are concerned about your supply, then speak to a lactation professional. 🩷

🤱Weekly Breastfeeding Signpost

"Responsive feeding", whether that's by bottle or breast, is the new language to replace "Feeding on demand", so you might hear this term used more frequently by health professionals and in the community when it comes to infant feeding.

For more information on responsive feeding and what that might look like for you and your baby, you can download a pdf leaflet from inside this UNICEF link.

https://www.unicef.org.uk/babyfriendly/baby-friendly-resources/relationship-building-resources/responsive-feeding-infosheet/

Don't forget you can pop in and see us every Thursday between 1-3pm at the New Milton Memorial Centre for support and a chat. 💗

This infosheet helps health professionals to support parents to feed their babies responsively and develop close and loving relationships.

🤱 Weekly Breastfeeding Signpost

"Sometimes breastfeeding doesn’t go as hoped for, or as expected. Some of those mothers, with a little support, guidance and practice, quickly move to a place of comfort and enjoyment and they don’t look back as they overcome challenges. But some don’t . Some of them need incredible determination to overcome problems and difficulties. Some go far beyond what even they thought they would do. And some reach a point where they run out of energy and emotion to keep going.

What do they need from those around them?"
