A common concern we hear is people worrying that they may need a hip replacement. In many cases, this is not the situation, particularly when the pain is not felt in the groin.

As osteopaths, we take a detailed case history to fully understand your symptoms, followed by a thorough examination. This allows us to assess different structures and determine whether your pain is coming from the hip joint itself or from another area, such as the lower back, pelvis, or the surrounding muscles and soft tissues.

Using this information, we can tailor a treatment plan specifically for you. Clear explanation and education are a vital first step, helping you understand your pain and confidently work towards getting back to movement, fitness, and everyday activities.

🎧 A podcast worth your time if you struggle with aches, pains, energy or weight

I’ve just listened to this excellent podcast from Dr Rangan Chatterjee featuring Dr David Unwin, and it really resonates with what we see every day in clinic:

Many people come to see us for help with aches and pains, but don’t always realise how much diet and lifestyle can be contributing. We often see people who are in a constant battle with their weight, feel low in energy, experience brain fog, or just don’t feel quite right in their bodies.

Both personally and professionally, I’ve noticed that when we clean up our diets, people often feel brighter, move more freely, and those everyday aches and pains can start to ease. Inflammation reduces, joints are happier, and the body copes better with day-to-day stresses.

While we do our best to explain this in clinic, this podcast does a brilliant job of clearly and simply explaining the link between what we eat, metabolic health, aches and pains, and longer-term concerns like type 2 diabetes. It also gives practical, realistic ideas about how small changes can make a big difference to health.

If you’re dealing with persistent pain, low energy, or struggling with weight, this is well worth a listen. Small changes really can add up 💚

If you have ever struggled with your weight, low energy, pre-diabetes or even type 2 diabetes, this is a conversation that could change your life.

✨New Year, New You✨

The cold winter months are the perfect time to pause, reset and give your body a much-needed tune-up. As we head into a new year, it’s a great opportunity to look after any aches, pains or ni**les you may have been putting off — and to feel motivated and ready for the year ahead.

If you’ve been worrying about an issue, now is the time to make a positive change. Understanding why something is happening is the first step forward, and we’re here to help guide you through that journey.

As osteopaths, we treat you as a whole person, not just the symptom. We take time to look at how your body works together, identify the root cause of the problem, and create a treatment plan tailored specifically to you. This includes hands-on treatment to improve movement and reduce discomfort, alongside clear advice and simple exercises to support your recovery and help you feel your best.

Start the year feeling stronger, more comfortable, and more confident in your body.

🚧 Christchurch Roadworks – Please Allow Extra Travel Time 🚧

Many of you may already be aware that there are ongoing roadworks around Christchurch, which could cause some traffic disruption over the coming weeks.

If you’re coming in for an appointment, please allow a bit of extra time for your journey — especially if you’re travelling from Christchurch towards New Milton. Arriving stressed isn’t conducive to a good treatment session!

If it looks as though the roadworks will make your travel too tricky or unpredictable, please just get in touch — we’ll happily help you reschedule your appointment.

🤞 Fingers crossed the disruption won’t be too bad!

For my part, I’ll be travelling in by train from New Milton to Christchurch on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but I believe most of my Christchurch patients are local, so hopefully it won’t affect too many of you.

This month marks a year since I opened the doors to my new practice in New Milton.

Getting here wasn’t straightforward – the early weeks brought their own mix of challenges, with the highs and lows of bringing home a lively new puppy and the sadness of a family bereavement. But with time, the practice has settled, grown, and taken on a life of its own.

I want to thank all my patients for their loyalty and support over the past year. Many of you have followed myself and Michelle from Christchurch – for some, the move has been more convenient, while for others it’s meant travelling further. I truly appreciate your commitment, whichever group you fall into.

This year has also seen the practice become more than just an osteopathic clinic. We’ve welcomed other therapists into the space, working together to create a calm, therapeutic setting for both manual and talking therapies.

The practice has gone from strength to strength over the last twelve months, and it’s been a privilege to both continue supporting familiar faces and to meet many new ones.
Here’s to the next chapter.
