Achilles tendinitis is an overuse injury that affects the Achilles tendon, the band of tissue connecting your calf muscles to your heel bone. This condition commonly affects runners and people who suddenly increase the intensity or duration of their physical activity.



Types of Achilles Tendinitis
1. Noninsertional Achilles tendinitis:
• Affects the middle portion of the tendon.
• Common in younger, more active individuals.
• Tendon fibers begin to break down, swell, and thicken.
2. Insertional Achilles tendinitis:
• Involves the lower portion of the tendon, where it attaches to the heel.
• Can affect anyone, including less active people.
• May be associated with bone spurs.



Symptoms
• Pain and stiffness along the Achilles tendon (especially in the morning).
• Pain that worsens with activity.
• Swelling or thickening of the tendon.
• Tenderness to touch.
• A creaking or crackling sound when moving the ankle.
