Eight years ago, Flourish began as a seed of an idea, from one morning a week in a shared clinic, with just one client, to where it is now — and what a journey it’s been since.

Over the years, I’ve had the real privilege of supporting countless individuals on their way to better psychological wellbeing. I’ve guided mental health professionals through clinical supervision, mentored psychologists in launching their own private practice, worked with corporate clients to support their employees mental health and like so many adapted to working online during the pandemic.

More recently, Flourish grew in a whole new direction with The Psychology Emporium, our Etsy store filled with thoughtful little gifts created especially for psychologists. It’s been a joy to blend creativity with our passion for the profession with my daughter’s design skills.

And yes — I still work in the NHS. Not because Flourish hasn’t succeeded (it’s truly flourishing), but because working across both public and private sectors brings a richness and balance to my practice. Each informs and strengthens the other, and I’m proud to contribute to both.

Flourish has been more than a business. It’s been a catalyst — giving me the confidence to leave a long-standing role, embrace new challenges, and keep growing both personally and professionally.

As I look ahead to the next eight years, there’s more change on the horizon — exciting things are coming very soon. So thank you for your support along the way and do stay tuned. 🌿

Do you find yourself catastrophising all manner of things which MIGHT (and might not) happen?

What if I mess up this presentation and get sacked?

What if my partner breaks up with me?

What if this pain is cancer?

Most of us have these thoughts from time to time, but if you find such thoughts are increasing and stopping you from doing things, or they are impacting your quality of life, then it’s probably time to address this.

Reframing a ‘what if’ question into a ‘what IS’ statement helps to orientate you back to focussing on the present and what you do KNOW NOW, helping you to move away from hypotheses and worst case scenarios.

Work, relationships, your appetite, sleep, motivation, energy, physical health - all (and so much more) are impacted by the state of your mental health.

Without good mental health our lives are made much more difficult - therapy is a great way to start to address this.

Yes therapy is hugely beneficial to anxiety and depression, but it's so much more than that.

Many who access therapy do so because they want to break a pattern of behaviour, or to make a change to their confidence.

What's your reason?

Sometimes in starting therapy, you'll feel worse before you feel better. And that's often because whatever you are addressing in therapy has been pushed to one side and buried. Therapy takes the lid off those boxes.

It's really important therefore that you find a therapist who'll know how and when to support you to open those boxes' who'll make sure you're prepated and ready.

All too often we are our own worst critic - judging ourselves for what we should have done, or not done, or said, or not said and the list goes on and on.

But if you're honest with yourself, if you said the same stuff to a friend, would they hang around being your friend for much longer? Unlikely.

The next time you find yourself being self critical, ask yourself what you would say to a friend in a similar situation and apply that to you - and just notice how it makes you feel....

Who are we? I am Dr Sarah Toft, a Clinical Psychologist providing a Psychology Service for adults. Although based in Newark on Trent, UK, we offer online sessions thereby making our services available World-wide.

How can we help? If you’re struggling with a range of psychological issues such as stress, anxiety, trauma, low self esteem or depression, then psychological therapy can help you to get back to where you want to be. I’ve worked for many years helping adults to overcome psychological difficulties so that they can flourish and have a better quality of life.

What else do we do? We also provide tailor-made Mental Health awareness training for businesses looking to enhance their well-being services for employees.
