Children in Need! 🐻💛

We had such a fun and colourful day celebrating Children in Need! Staff and residents joined in by wearing yellow, spots, and Pudsey-inspired outfits, filling the home with smiles and bright colours. 🟡

The day before, we spent the afternoon doing Pudsey crafts, making our own decorations to fill the home — and they looked brilliant! 🎨
And our amazing chef baked a gorgeous selection of Children in Need–themed cupcakes for the important cause.

Most importantly, we spent the day raising money for this wonderful charity, supporting children and young people across the UK. A huge thank you to everyone who joined in, donated, or helped make the day so cheerful and meaningful. 💛✨

World Kindness Day at Edingley Lodge 💛

To celebrate World Kindness Day, we wanted to share a little kindness within our local community.

Our residents spent time making beautiful kindness cards. Meanwhile, our amazing chef baked plenty of delicious cupcakes to go alongside them. 💌

In the afternoon, we set out to deliver these treats to some of our wonderful neighbours:
Our local charity shop, hairdressers, Co-op
and doctors’ surgery.

Everyone was so grateful, and it was lovely to see so many smiles. It was so nice to spread a little joy and love around the village.

As well as spreading kindness outside of our home, we also kept a selection of sweet cones by the door all day so visitors could help themselves — a small act of kindness to brighten their day too.

A little kindness really does go a long way.

A Wonderful Visit from the Southwell U3A Choir! 🎶

We had such a lovely afternoon when the Southwell U3A Choir came to visit us here at Edingley Lodge!

They performed a beautiful range of songs that had all of our residents clapping, singing along, and smiling from ear to ear.

Our residents said how lovely it was and how much they enjoyed every song. It really brightened everyone’s day — a huge thank you to the choir for sharing their time and talent with us. We can’t wait to welcome you back again soon! ✨

Yesterday we celebrated Be Yourself Day, giving our staff the choice of fun hairstyles or odd socks- or even better both!
All to show off their personalities and spread some joy around the home🥰

There was lots of laughter all day — residents said how we really will do absolutely anything to make them smile.

It was a day full of fun and plenty of giggles — a lovely reminder that being yourself is the best thing you can be! ✨

Remembrance Sunday❤️

Today, we take a moment to pause, reflect, and honour all those who have served and sacrificed — the brave men and women who gave so much for our freedom. 🌺

Over the last few weeks, our residents have been busy preparing something special to mark this important time. During our Knit and Natter sessions and in their own free time, residents have been knitting beautiful poppies. as well as painting or making card poppies during craft sessions.

On Friday, we came together to assemble our handmade creations into a wreath for our home, which is now proudly displayed by the entrance. It’s a lovely and heartfelt symbol of remembrance, made with care and love by everyone here.

We are also accepting donations for the Poppy Appeal for anyone who would like to contribute to this important cause. 🌺

“At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.” ❤️

Lancaster Bomber Memorial Trip 🇬🇧

This week we took a special minibus trip out to visit the Lancaster Bomber Memorial near Norton Disney upon a residents request.

We drove up and parked in the viewing spot to take it all in — the incredible sight of the memorial standing tall, honouring the bravery and sacrifice of the aircrew who served during WWII.

The sculpture is based on Lancaster R5689, a bomber from 50 Squadron that took off from RAF Swinderby on the evening of 19 September 1942. Tragically, on its return, both port engines failed during the final approach. The aircraft crashed into Thurlby Wood, just three miles from its base. Four of the seven crew members were killed.

The memorial is a powerful reminder of courage, dedication, and the lives given in service — something that still means so much to many of our residents today.

The sculpture stands not only as a tribute to one crew, but to the tens of thousands who served — and died — in the skies over Europe.

Afterwards, we stopped off in Newark for a coffee break, sharing our thoughts from the trip and enjoying a peaceful moment together before heading home. ☕

Bonfire Night at Edingley Lodge! 🎆🔥

We had the most wonderful evening on Wednesday celebrating Bonfire Night together! 🎇

Everyone gathered to watch our fantastic firework display — some residents wrapped up warm to enjoy the show from the patio, while others watched from the comfort of indoors.

We kept cosy with mulled wine and hot chocolates topped with cream and marshmallows, which went down a treat. ☕
Later, we tucked into a delicious spread of proper bonfire food — hot dogs, burgers, fried onions, chips and mushy peas — followed by chocolate-covered marshmallows for dessert.

It was lovely to see so many family members and friends come along to join the celebrations. The smiles and warmth of the evening made it truly special for everyone involved. ❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make it such a magical night! ✨

🎃 Halloween Celebrations 🎃

Residents, patients and colleagues got into the Halloween spirit of things by creating beautiful autumnal displays with painted and carved pumpkins, flowers and wreaths.

Many of our care homes and hospitals hosted fun-filled Halloween events with delicious treats, mocktails, live music entertainment, costume competitions and community celebrations.

It's safe to say that everyone had a spooktacular time. 👻

Here are some of our favourite moments.

👻🎃 Bewitching Tricks and Spooky Treats 👻🎃

Springvale Court Care Home, in Wrekenton, , was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween Adams Family got into full swing.

Colleagues embraced the spirit of Halloween by dressing up as The Addams Family. Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley, Wednesday, Uncle Fester, Cousin Itt and Lurch all visited Trinity Square in Gateshead town centre to hand out goodie bags for children and adults, and everyone had the opportunity to have their photo taken with the Addams Family.

General Manager, Gemma Rooney, shared: “Our staff love any excuse for fancy dress day! – we’ve all had a brilliant time.”

The team at Springvale Court commented: “It has been such a fun day. It was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get into the Halloween spirit. And seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces’’.

🔍 Thursday Night Murder Club at Caldy Manor 🕵️‍♀️

It was an evening to remember at Caldy Manor Care Home on the as residents, colleagues and friends from Heswall & District Ladies Circle turned detectives, suspects and stars in the home’s very own Thursday Murder Club-themed evening.

Inspired by Richard Osman’s much-loved mystery novels, there were hilarious plot twists and some truly Oscar-worthy performances, the night was packed with laughs and fantastic acting from everyone involved.

A huge thank you to all, the experience was a roaring success.

Safe to say… no one saw the ending coming! 😉
