I studied at Witwatersrand Technikon in Johannesburg, South Africa. My course was a full time, three year course and I received an HND in BEAUTY TECHNOLOGY AND COMPLEMENTARY THERAPY. I have been qualified since 1995 and worked in the industry in South Africa. A few career highlights include venturing abroad and working on board HRH Queen Elizabeth 2 for three years with Steiner Transocean. I also managed the prestigious QE2 Thalassotherapy Spa for a year. Following the adventures on the high seas I worked at Inverness College as a lecturer in the Beauty Therapy Department and obtained my SQA Introduction to Teaching followed by the Advanced Teaching Certificate and Assessor Units. After moving from Inverness I worked in Inverurie at the Grampian Cosmetic Clinic with Dr James Beattie. Specialising in facial, and cosmeceutical therapies. I now find myself on the next stage of my professional journey working self-employed and specialising in Aromatherapy based treatments and Reflexology. It would be a joy and great pleasure to meet you and provide a professional treatment plan and service to meet your individual needs.

My name is Philippa Lordan, and as well as running Aromatherapy Thyme, I am delighted to be introducing Baby Massage and Baby Yoga to my portfolio of services.

Baby Massage: Demonstrating love, by rhythmically stroking babies, forges the bonds of trust for their future development. Skin to skin contact causes the release of hormones that create loving, caring and empathic behaviour.

Baby massage is a centuries old tradition that provides both mother and baby with significant and undisputed benefits, that are widely endorsed by medical practitioners around the world.

Baby massage improves relaxation, encouraging longer sleep duration for infants. It helps to relieve the effects of colic, teething, constipation and wind. It stimulates all a baby’s major systems: co-ordination, respiration, digestion, learning ability and language development.

Massage helps strengthen the bond between parents and child and it relaxes the parent or care giver too!

Baby Yoga: An interactive routine performed with a baby and its parent or care giver. The baby is moved carefully, in a way that works well for the baby’s own body. The movements may include gentle stretching of the limbs as well as practice of correct breathing by encouraging the babies to imitate their mother’s breathing patterns.

Music or calm singing may also be used during sessions to help calm and soothe the baby during exercises. Additionally, aside from bonding and flexibility the baby yoga may impart it also aids in strengthening the spine, improves muscle condition, imparts flexibility to their joints, improves breathing and oxygen intake and helps with balance, improves organ function which also helps to prevent illness. The baby’s immune system is strengthened, the brain is stimulated and physical confidence and well as spatial awareness are developed.

Classes provide a great social environment for the parent, care giver and baby. Skills are acquired in class which become life time resources.

All classes are baby led ……………allowing your baby to lead the way ………putting baby first.
