🩷 SCOTTISH BREAST SCREENING SERVICE 🩷

It’s been 3 years since women from our practice were last invited for breast screening — and it’s time again!

Invitations will start going out from 21st November 2025, and screening will take place at the mobile unit at Newburgh Industrial Estate (Car Park, Newburgh).

Breast screening helps find problems early, often before you notice anything yourself. If you’re invited, please do try to attend — it could make a real difference 💗

• Women who have had both breasts removed (bilateral mastectomy) or who have asked not to receive future screening invitations will not be invited.

• For transgender participants:
• Female to Male (FtM) individuals who transitioned after 14 June 2015 and previously held a female CHI number will still be routinely invited for breast screening.
• FtM individuals who transitioned before this date can still self-refer if they wish to take part in screening.

Further information regarding routine breast screening can also be found on the NHS inform website at:

🩷BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH🩷

October is a month of awareness — from pumpkins to pink ribbons.
As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re encouraging everyone to check their breasts and know the signs.

Breast cancer is more common in women than men. Around 56,500 women and around 390 men are diagnosed in the UK each year.

1 in 7 women in the UK develop breast cancer during their lifetime. It is more common in older women.

Checking your breasts for any unusual changes can help discover breast cancer early. It’s important to recognise when something’s not right.

There’s no special way to check your breasts and you do not need any training.

Checking your breasts is as easy as TLC:

🎃Touch your breasts: can you feel anything new or unusual?

🎃Look for changes: does anything look different to you?

🎃Check any new or unusual changes with a GP

**MEDICATIONS FROM PRIVATE CLINICS**
In line with local and national guidelines, Newburgh and Abernethy Surgery is not currently able to prescribe Mounjaro (or other weight loss injections) privately to our patients. We are aware that some of our patients are attending private clinics in order to receive those.
Please note, the practice is not responsible for any prescribing, monitoring, or managing side effects of medications prescribed by anyone outside of the NHS. This includes weight loss injections, medicinal cannabis and medication for ADHD.
Some of those medications can interfere with your current treatments, in particular hormonal medications and the contraceptive pill. It is advisable to have a full discussion with your private clinician about possible interactions with your current medications before commencing any treatment. If you do take regular medication, become unwell or are diagnosed with another ailment during your course of treatment you should also make your private clinician aware of this.
