Last week, a handful of our head chefs took a trip to The Bertinet Kitchen Cookery School for a bread-making class with the marvellous Richard Bertinet himself! 🥖

Richard led a wonderfully informative class and provided our chefs with a fantastic opportunity to develop their skills. As you can see, they produced some delectable loaves, tarts and rolls, which they are already looking forward to recreating for our residents!

We held our Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning Fundraiser yesterday. Our hospitality team provided the pièce de résistance a Magnificent Macmillan Cake truly worth a Paul Hollywood handshake! Thank you to all our staff who provided bakes, cakes and treats to help fundraise. Thank you to our visitors that supported our cause and also thank you for the delicious Spelt Sour Dough Bread! The "Guess how many candies in the jar" will be continued for the week and is displayed on our front desk - £1.00 to play and win the jar of sweets! We think we may have raised the best result at Falkland Grange so far for donations!

Falkland Grange had a lovely visit from Stephanie Stevenson of the West Berkshire Council.

Stephanie is the Armed Forces Champion for West Berkshire and is kindly supporting our home with the veteran friendly accreditation framework. Julia and Ann have been appointed the champions for Falkland Grange.

We look forward to seeing Stephanie at the Newbury Thatcham Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club and hosting a veteran's tea party at our home with our residents.

This , the Alzheimer's Society are focusing on the importance of community in combating dementia. It will take a society to beat dementia, and we all have a role to play, which is why this incredible charity are asking people to help however they can, whether through fundraising, volunteering, campaigning or becoming a Dementia Friend.

Here at Porthaven Care Homes, our homes regularly fundraise for dementia-based charities, with some of our team members even taking part in sponsored skydives in the past! Many of our team members are also Dementia Friends and work with their local dementia action alliances to make their communities more dementia friendly.
