It’s been a whirlwind of a week here and we loved every second!

We had the most wonderful time watching Garston Gallopers perform 🎭 and our hobby room is getting more and more beautiful with some lovely new artwork on the walls. 🎨

Friday’s Friendship Café was a real highlight! The wonderful Hannah kept everyone smiling and laughing all afternoon, lovely new friendships were formed, familiar faces caught up, and Jordon and Mitch’s chocolate cake was honestly something special. 🍫

We’ve also had some really lovely quieter moments this week. Scrabble around the table, a lovely trip down memory lane looking through some old photographs, and watching the squirrels outside who are absolutely full of mischief. 🐿️

Here at Winchcombe Place, we love hitting the road.
Jumping in our minibus is something residents look forward to enormously and there is always an adventure around the corner! (Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming trips👀)

For someone living with dementia, a day out can be so much more than just a change of scenery. The benefits are wide ranging:
🌿 Regular gentle exercise, even a short stroll, improves sleep patterns and helps build appetite

💪 Being active outdoors maintains strength, balance and mobility, helping to support independence for longer

🧠 Changes in light, wind, temperature, sounds and smells help occupy the mind and bring calm, providing natural sensory stimulation that is hard to replicate indoors

🌸 The outdoors has a wonderful way of bringing back emotional memories…childhood play, a favourite walk, a much-loved garden…these moments can be really uplifting

🕐 Being outside helps reinforce a natural sense of time and place, which can be very reassuring

😊 Social interaction during a day out can also lift mood and reduce feelings of isolation

It doesn’t take a big trip to make a big difference. Even a short time outdoors can have a really positive impact on wellbeing!

📚 We’d encourage anyone to read these guides as they are full of practical, helpful advice for anyone whose life is touched by dementia

What a fantastic afternoon out for our Gentleman’s Club 🐎

We were delighted to be invited to Newbury Racecourse and what an afternoon it was! Even the sun came out to join us! ☀️🕶️

A real highlight was the trip down to the start line. Such a unique opportunity to get up close to the action and experience the excitement before the race began. It’s not something you get to do every day and it certainly made the visit all the more memorable.

The gentleman had so much fun and enjoyed a brilliant day filled with laughter, great company and plenty of special moments.

A HUGE thank you to Newbury Racecourse for such a memorable experience 💜

What a week it’s been for Gentleman’s Club this week and it’s not over yet! 🎩

We are so lucky here at Winchcombe Place to be nestled right next to River Lambourn. Despite the grey skies, we certainly weren’t going to let that stop us! We laced up our shoes, stepped into the fresh air and enjoyed a riverside stroll together. There’s nothing quite like good company and a gentle walk to lift spirits!

And the exciting news doesn’t stop there…we are officially back on the road! 🚌 and today we have had the absolute honour to be invited to Newbury Racecourse this afternoon. The gentleman are all suited and booted and ready for what is sure to be an absolutely unforgettable afternoon 🐎

💬 If you’re thinking about joining our gentleman’s club then we would absolutely love to hear from you! Don’t hesitate to get in touch to find out more about how you and your loved one can get involved!

Introducing Mollies Trolley 🌙☕️

Every evening, Mollies Trolley makes two rounds, one earlier in the evening and one later in the evening because person-centred care means recognising that every residents evening looks a little different.

A warm milky drink is far more than a comforting treat. For older people and those living with dementia, the benefits speak for itself:

💤Better sleep - milk contains tryptophan, which helps the body produce melatonin supporting a calmer more restful night.

💧 Staying hydrated - the sensation of thirst can diminish in older age and with dementia, making it easier to become dehydrated. A warm tasty drink is a gentle and effective solution.

🦴 Strong bones - a simple way to boost daily calcium intake and support bone health as we age.

🧠 Comfort and familiarity - routine means so much to someone living with dementia. The familiar ritual of a warm bedtime drink, the smell and cup in hand can ease evening anxiety and gently signal that it’s time to rest.

We’re so proud of Mollie and the love she puts into every round 💜

We’ve had such a lovely few days here at Winchcombe Place 💜

There has been lots of dancing, plenty of time soaking up the sunshine and some really special moment shared together. One of the biggest highlights was the visit from Kelly's Donkeys who brought so much joy with them! 🐴🐑🐰🫏

For those living with dementia, assisted pet therapy can really have a meaningful impact. It helps lift mood, ease feelings of stress and worry and encourage engagement. Being around animals often sparks conversations and creates a real sense of comfort and familiarity. It also encourages social interaction, helping residents connect with not only the animals but with each other, loved ones and the team, something we’ve seen so beautifully over the past few days.

There has been so many smiles and heard so much laughter.

A big thank you to Kelly’s Donkeys for such a memorable visit, it brightened everyone’s day 💜

This Easter, we are taking a moment to say a massive heartfelt THANK YOU to our amazing team here at Winchcombe Place Care Home. 💜

Day shifts, night shifts, weekends, bank holidays…they are always there, giving everything they have with a kind word, a gentle hand and a caring heart. What they give residents goes far beyond a ‘job’, it is kindness, dignity, genuine care and it means everything.

We have treated every single team member to an Easter Egg this year. A tiny thank you for the enormous difference they make. They are appreciated more than words can say 💜

We are so proud to share that 15 of us here at Winchcombe Place have signed up for Trek 26. Walking 13 miles around Stonehenge in aid of Alzheimer’s Society. 🥾

For us, this is more than a fundraising challenge. The Alzheimer’s Society is a cause that runs through the heart of everything we do. We see its importance every single day; in the care we provide, the families we support and in the moments that remind us why we do what we do.

If you would like to support us, any donation is gratefully received and goes directly towards research and support for those living with dementia.

Thank you so much from all of us at Winchcombe Place 💜

This Easter weekend reminded us just how much joy the simple things can bring 🌷

Everyone came together for the most lovely couple of days. Cuddles with the Fabulous Eight chicks, friendly battles over the Scrabble board, homemade chocolate cornflake cakes made with love, garden walks before the rain and even a special visit from the Easter Bunny delivering eggs to every resident! 🐰🍫🐣

Seeing residents laughing and enjoying these moments together is what makes Winchcombe Place so special. We are so grateful for every single moment. ✨

We are so excited to share that five of our Fabulous Eight chicks have now hatched! 🐣 Tiny, fluffy and absolutely full of life! They have been chatting and chirping away and have stolen every single heart in the building. Watching the joy they have bought to everyone this week has been truly wonderful! 💜

To top it all off, the lovely Nora has surprised the team with not one but two gorgeous homemade chocolate Easter cakes 🍰 We are so touched by her kindness and generosity. Thank you so much, Nora. It really does mean the world to us.

Wishing everyone a very happy Easter weekend from all of us at Winchcombe Place 🐥💜
