West Berkshire Injury Clinic

West Berkshire Injury Clinic Osteopathy,Sports Therapy and Massage. Don't be put off by the 'Sports' description. Any questions - Just give me a call.

WBIC is run by Andrew Spaak and supported by a wonderful team all with the health and wellbeing of our clients at the centre of what we want to achieve. Sports Therapy and Massage is good just to help with the general aches and pains of daily life - whether it be computer work, aches from gardening or just general aches and pains. However, it is extremely useful to Sports people both professional and amateur - preparing for an event e.g. Marathon, Triathlon or cycling, reduce the risk of injury or helping to recover from injury.

One of the things that we think it is important is to talk to people if they're not sure about who they want to see or whether we can help.

We probably don't say too much about this but we are always happy to talk to people so we can ensure that we are able to provide them with what they need.

We recognise that we are not right for everybody and there are some things that we can't help with.

We will alsways look to be honest and having that discussion with anybody can be helpful to ensure that we are the right people.

I am also proud to say that we have contacts with a number of other clinics and if appropriate would be happy to recommend somebody else.

We very much hold to the view that there is no competition in healthcare.

So if you want to have a chat give us a call or drop a message.

A key part of what we do with people is provide people with exercises. There could be many reasons why we do this. It could be to help you recover from an injury, to reduce the risk of injury or to be able to achieve what you set out to achieve.

When we do this, we are looking at your best interests and we want you to recover, to exceed your aims and ambitions and not to get injured.

Unfortunately and it is understandable, people are looking for a magic bullet, a fix. There are no real short cuts and it requires persistence and consistency when doing the exercises.

I always hope that we explain the rationale for the exercises in a way that is easy to understand. That is absolutely key, in my view, as if you understand the reasoning you are more likely to do the exercises.

If you don't understand the reason for the exercises ask for the reasons. We really don't mind and I know the vast majority of therapists won't mind either.

What a formal photo.

I thought it was about time that I gave people a little bit about me.

Did you know that the clinic is coming up to its 15th anniversary. But how did it come about? Why am I doing what I do?

I always had an interest in Physical Therapy and back in the late 90s I was exploring options to go back to university to study Physiotherapy. But at that time Sam got diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and we decided that it wasn't the right time as we didn't know what was going to happen.

I still had that interest and through playing rugby I had a few injuries and it rekindled my interest.

I then got the opportunity to do a Sports and Remedial Massage course which really sparked my interest and I developed a bit of learning bug. Which lead to Sports Therapy, Clinical Sports Therapy and then finally a Level 6 qualification in Sports Therapy.

At each point it became really clear how much I didn't know. I think it is always important to recognise this and to know that there is always so much more to learn.

I know I'm not the best and sometimes you don't get things right but I do think I know when to ask for help and when to refer. And I hope you agree with this?

This career has led to many amazing things -
1) Working at Twickenham with the Berkshrie U20s.
2) Working with Fiji (albeit briefly) prior to the world cup in England back in 2015.
3) Working at some amazing events with amazing therapists. Celebrating
vicariously when the competitors achieve.
4) Helping people achieve their goals.

There are so many more and it would be impossible to list them all.

I have been very lucky and I do hope I've helped a number of people along the way.

In 2025, we’ve continued to care for a wide range of people—helping them return to the things they love, take on personal challenges, or simply live their day-to-day lives with less pain.

We feel incredibly lucky to do this work. While many of the people we see thank us for the care we provide, the truth is that we often leave these moments feeling just as grateful.

Grateful for the conversations, the shared stories, and the chance to learn from the lives people lead. Hearing about holidays, work, family, challenges, and achievements is a genuine privilege, and it’s one of the quiet joys of working in this profession.

We really are very lucky.

New Years resolutions are really fickle and the vast majority of people are not able to follow them through. Why is that I wonder?

But a new year is a human concept and if we haven't changed what is going on in our brain then it won't happen. Also, why wait till the new year? Why not do something now?

Now that seems like a lot of doom and gloom. I came up with this blog a few years ago and it really is about keeping things simple and make sure that they are achievable. Don't chase the impossible and prepare!

New year = new me - Yes? I'm interested in your thoughts on this.

Top Tips from the West Berkshire Injury Clinic team to help you set New Year's Resolutions that are achievable.

There are roadworks again outside the clinic in Newbury with 3 way traffic lights up by the clocktower. They have been there for a little bit but there isn't any sign of going away.

Please allow a bit of extra time, just in case.

Also, if you are outside the clinic, if you want to have your music turned up loud can you make sure the music is festive so we can sing along! 😁😁

Megan is leaving the clinic as she is moving away from the area.

We are sad to see her go but really want to wish her all the best in the future.

She has merged her time with us alongside her main career as a firefighter and it has been a joy to have her with us. Whatever she decides to do alongside her firefighting we know she we will do well and thrive.

Good luck Megan!

Confidence is a key thing and when a person gets injured their confidence in their own body suffers. We always work with a view of not just addressing the physical but the psychological.

Getting people to recover their confidence in their body is something we will always work on. Helping you with exercise to recover and then getting you back doing what you want to do where possible.

Using hands on techniques to help people feel better and more able to face the world.

Our Story

West Berkshire Injury Clinic provides Osteopathy and Sports Therapy to help all people whether they are sporty or not overcome aches and pains and recover from injuries that they may have at any time.

Although we do treat sporting injuries this is NOT all we treat as we also treat aches and pains which may have been caused from working at a desk, gardening, doing work around the house or if you’re unlucky enough just walking down the street.

Our people are more than happy to discuss our services with anybody concentrating on what they require.
