Hayfever seems to be particularly strong this year, possibly with all the rain everything is popping out at once! I do a lovely hayfever anti allergen tonic or tea get in touch if I can help.
A great herb for hayfever is Plantain aka Ribwort (Plantago lanceolata) and it’s everywhere! It can help with hayfever as it is said to have decongestant actions which supports the respiratory system, clearing phlegm and protecting the mucus membranes from an irritating cough, soothing and easing a harsh, dry cough as it also has expectorant and anti spasmodic actions. It's full of polysaccharides which support the immune system, tannins which can help reduce inflammation and promote healing as well as clearing heat and toxins. Also good for countering an irritated digestive system.
Also great for those pesky insect bites.
It has a drawing action so great used externally for drawing out that nasty poison (works on splinters too). If I get bitten I chew a leaf and then put it on the bite straight away, leave it for as long as possible and it pulls out all the nasty stuff, it’s amazing works even on horsefly bites!
Make sure you pick “clean” leaves not where dogs have been or lots traffic.
Identify it safely before use. There’s 2 sorts broad leaf and ribwort either is ok.
What a pretty herb.

If you are taking perscribed medication or have any under lying conditions make sure it is safe for you to take (check with your gp or a, qualified medical herbalist).

How lucky I am! Just look at my lovely Goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis). I am so pleased to cultivate this herb which is now rare and endangered. This is its forth year of growing, I took root cuttings 2 years ago and it’s just doing so well! I am so chuffed I might even harvest a little this Autumn! Which is so exciting! And I have planted a baby at the woodland garden to see if it will take 🤞
Goldenseal is a herb native to North American traditionally used to treat a variety of health problems, including sore or itchy eyes and mouth ulcers with a traditional use for stomach issues with inflammation. I use it sometimes in mouth washes 🤢. The powdered root is amazing for healing cuts and scrapes “this may sting a little!” 😂 .
Avoid internally if you taking blood-thinners, pregnant or breast feeding.
Just such a magical woodland herb that grows in the shade, and grows for me! 👏👏👏

Must be time for a herby walk in the woods soon!
