Massive thank you to some of my patients suggesting I might have hayfever ....you were right! 🙈

I thought I was soildering on through a summer head/sinus cold but three weeks in not any worse, nor any better a trip to Boots in Newcastle Emlyn, a chat with the pharmacist , two antihistamines down and voila 🤩🥳

Roll on next week without having to blow my nose between each appointment 🙃

P.s these were free of charge through the minor ailments scheme prescribed by the pharmacist

The other week a patient had booked in online at www.totallytootsiesfootcare.co.uk with an ongoing corn that he was unable to resolve with over the counter corn plasters.

All checks were carried out and it did indeed present as a corn.

I'll take the opportunity here to beg people NOT to use corn plasters!!! As you can see on the picture the white "soggy" area of skin next to the corn. This is macerated tissue that has been caused by the corn plaster slipping and leaving healthy skin burnt and tender. To the right of this there is also signs of peeled skin so the damaged area of skin is quite large bacuse if the corn plaster.

After "shaving" the calloused part with the scapel, the next concern that there was an ulcer underneath as a very tiny hole appeared and a spec of infection....a little more tidying and I could feel I was snagging on something...it was....I piece of wire that had gone directly up into the foot and the patient believed it was several months earlier 😵‍💫

All cleaned and a small dry dressing for 24 hours

Patient to return in two weeks after applying daily surgical spirit to the area to "dry" out the macerated tissue so I can scapel it off to complete the task (it's hard to scapel macerated tissue as it's rubbery in texture)

NEVER be embarrassed bringing your feet to me! I've certainly not seen it all but I've seen alot and I love a project 😉

All completed pain free in a New Patient Appointment slot of 1 hour, including taking medial history and full foot assessment.

The 2nd digit nail had gone up and over, underneath was a large callous and small ulcer underneath.

All tidied, cleaned, dry dressed and follow up appointment booked in

I absolutely love the analogy here! Why do we keep fitting our feet into shoes? Shoes should fit our feet! Stand on A4 paper and draw a template of each foot, measure the longest (this could be your 2nd toe not necessarily your "big" toe) and widest part.Where possible remove your insoles from your shoes and compare to the outline you've drawn....

Healthy Feet = Strong Roots 🌱

Imagine a tree growing freely in nature—its roots spread wide, providing stability, strength, and resilience. Now, picture a tree confined in a small pot—its roots restricted, limiting its growth and weakening its foundation.

Our feet are no different! As children, we start with naturally wide, strong feet, but years of restrictive footwear can alter their shape, weaken muscles, and affect overall function.

Just like a tree needs space to grow strong roots, our feet need freedom to maintain their natural strength and structure.

🔸 Choose footwear that respects natural foot shape.
🔸 Train your feet for strength and mobility.
🔸 Let your toes spread and move freely.

Give your feet the freedom they deserve—because strong feet create a strong foundation for movement!

I've had alot of you draw around your feet on A4 paper in the last few months to demonstrate the shape of your feet compared with your footwear. Its a great simple way to visually check if your shoes fit! Most shoes have removable insoles, so if you can, take the insole out and place it on your foot template. Its said that 0.8-1.2cm extra in length is what you're aiming for. This is to factor in what work/activities you do, socks you wear and personal preference. I have soo many of you that get repeated corns on the outside of little toes or in-between toes, this is often (not always) because there isn't enough space for your toes, either the general width of the shoe or combine with the shape. So get your pen and paper out!!
