Maternal Mental Health Awareness | 4-10 May

Pregnancy, birth and early parenthood can be a time of big change — and it’s important to remember that maternal mental health matters.

Many women experience mental health challenges during pregnancy or after birth, and support is available. Reaching out early can make a real difference.

The Maternal Mental Health Alliance brings together trusted organisations to improve support for mothers and families and provides clear information on where to get help.

Dying Matters Awareness Week 4-10 May

Talking about death and dying isn’t always easy, but it matters.

This week encourages open, honest conversations about death, dying and bereavement — helping people feel more prepared, supported, and less alone.

Taking the time to talk about wishes and what matters most can bring reassurance to you and those close to you.

May Measure Month

May Measure Month is an annual global campaign encouraging people to check their blood pressure and raise awareness of high blood pressure (hypertension).

High blood pressure often has no symptoms, but checking it regularly can help reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke and other serious health problems.

During May, we encourage patients to take the opportunity to have their blood pressure measured and to understand their numbers.

💉 World Immunisation Week – 24–30 April

This year’s theme is “For every generation, vaccines work” — highlighting how vaccines protect people of all ages, from infancy through to older adulthood.

Vaccines are one of the most effective ways to prevent serious illness and protect both individuals and communities. They have safely protected generations and continue to safeguard our future.

If you or your child may be due a vaccination, or you have any questions, please contact the practice.

💙 Bowel Cancer Awareness Month – April

April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, helping raise awareness of one of the most common cancers in the UK.

Early diagnosis saves lives — over 9 in 10 people survive bowel cancer when it’s caught early.

Know the symptoms:
• bleeding from your bottom
• blood in your poo
• a change in your pooing habits. You might be going more or less often, or have diarrhoea or constipation that might come and go
• losing weight but you’re not sure why
• feeling very tired all the time but you’re not sure why
• a pain or lump in your tummy

Having these symptoms doesn’t always mean you have bowel cancer, but it’s still important to find out what’s causing them.

If something doesn’t feel right, please don’t ignore it — contact your GP.

💉RSV Vaccine – Protecting Those Most at Risk

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a common virus that can cause serious lung infections, particularly in babies and older adults.

The RSV vaccine helps reduce the risk of severe illness such as bronchiolitis and pneumonia.

You may be eligible for a free NHS RSV vaccine if you are:
• 28 weeks pregnant or more (to help protect your baby)
• Aged 75 or over
• You live in a care home for older adults

If you think you may be eligible or would like more information, please contact the practice.
