The brain fog, the word-finding struggles, the feeling like you're not yourself; it's biology, not weakness. Estrogen is a brain fuel, and when it fluctuates, so does everything that makes you feel like you.

Your our brain isn't broken. It's in perimenopause.

The good news? For most women, it gets better. And there's a lot you can do right now.

NICE gives NHS a green light for non-hormonal treatment.

The National Institute for Clinical Excellence has given the green light for a new treatment option for menopausal hot flushes and night sweats to be used in the NHS when hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is not suitable.

Fezolinetant (also called Veoza and made by Astellas Pharma) is recommended to treat moderate to severe symptoms in the final draft NICE guidance.

Hot flushes and night sweats can hugely affect daily life by disrupting sleep, concentration, relationships, and the ability to work, and when HRT is not suitable, options have previously been limited.

The fezolinetant 45mg tablet is taken once a day and is a non-hormonal treatment that works by blocking the nerve pathways in the brain that trigger hot flushes and night sweats.

Dr Heather Currie MBE said: “We are delighted to have a new non hormonal medication available to treat menopausal symptoms for women who cannot, or prefer not to take HRT.”
