This week, we’re raising awareness about Legionnaires’ disease, caused by Legionella bacteria, which can grow in water systems that aren’t properly maintained. This awareness week runs alongside scheduled water testing being conducted at our premises 🔧 💧

While it’s uncommon, it can lead to illness when bacteria are inhaled through tiny droplets from things like showers, taps, or air conditioning units 🦠
The good news is that it’s easy to prevent! We will be sharing simple tips throughout the week to help you keep your home safe, spot early symptoms and protect your health.

In the meantime, here are a few quick prevention tips:
✔️ Flush out taps and showers, especially if you’ve been away
✔️ Clean showerheads and taps to prevent limescale build-up
✔️ Maintain your water systems regularly

Your light doesn’t fade when you share it.

Kindness is one of the few things you can give away without ever having less.

Support people. Celebrate them. Uplift them.

Because someone else shining doesn’t mean you’re in the dark.

This is Mark, he is one of our many residents at The Trust and this is his story.

“I came out of jail and I had a heart attack. That’s what started it all. I was homeless because of the system and I had to give my flat up. I was an alcoholic for 30 odd years so I was homeless with nowhere to go. I spent 12 months at my mates house but then it was time to move on before we fell out so I put myself in the George Hotel for 2 weeks so the council could get me in somewhere which was here. Since then, day 1 The Trust have done nothing but support me in any way they can which has enabled me to concentrate on myself and stop drinking. I have now been clean for 15 months. A lot of my family passed away early on so I’ve had no support and my mental health was declining, that’s where The Lyme Trust comes in. I personally think that The Lyme Trust is a fantastic place to better yourself in life and the reason for that is because it takes away all the pressure off everyday life so you can just concentrate on yourself.

Last time I packed in drinking, I was clean for 3 years but I did it under a detox but this time I did it with your help. I did it without my medication and I feel a lot better for it. I am now on the property ladder for over 55s so that I can move onto the next stage and to start living a normal life or whatever normal is.”

Mark has done extremely well and we are super proud of how far he’s come! Well done Mark 👏🏼.
