🙏 Pilgrimage to Lourdes - Supporting Young People.
Meet Jenson, Sharlene, Maja and Angela - four inspiring Year 12 students from St John Fisher Catholic College who are heading on pilgrimage to Lourdes this May with the Archdiocese of Birmingham. They’ll be supporting pilgrims through care, companionship and service in this sacred place.

"Newcastle Under Light" will be heading over to us next month 👉🏻 Wed 4th March from 6pm, we'll be projecting a light-up artwork on The Guildhall with lots of other glowing surpises! 👀

📢 Brilliant Bamboo are seeking land in 'Castle!

A North Staffordshire community organisation are looking for up to one acre of land in Newcastle-under-Lyme to create a new sustainable bamboo parklet.

After transforming a disused concrete space behind Sainsbury’s in Stoke town centre into a vibrant community hub that hosts workshops, events and even circus performances🌿

The new parklet would allow bamboo to be planted directly into the ground, supporting long-term research into:
🌍 Carbon absorption
🌬️ Air quality
🐝 Urban biodiversity
💚 Wellbeing and community connection

“We’ve seen how a neglected space can become joyful, welcoming and full of life,” says founder Gemma Thomas. “Now we want to bring that same sense of possibility to Newcastle.”

The parklet will be funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund via Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council. The team is specifically seeking unused brownfield land or fields with public access.

We’re up at Keele SU today for the student (re)Freshers Fair repping local businesses and handing out Welcome to Castle maps 🙌

We met with Keele’s Student Ambassador Team back in August to get feedback on what students were looking for in Castle 👇

‘How do we get to Castle, is there a bus? Where do we grab a coffee? Is there anywhere to watch live music? How about pub quizzes? Speaking of pubs, where do we get a pint? I love yoga - where can I do that? Where’s the best places to get a trim? How can we shop sustainably?’

Together we pulled together over 50 recommendations in the town 🫶

You can pick up a map from the BID office in Fogg Street, Keele in Town or featured businesses - let us know if you need a restock!

Thanks to everyone who stopped for a sip and allowed us to swap a hot drink for a natter on Brew Monday ☕

We don’t often pause, reflect or slow down due to pressures of daily life, but sometimes simply talking to someone can halve the weight of what you’re carrying or bring a smile to your day 🫶

Thanks to the teams at Stay Well Staffordshire, Better Together - Community Support Group for Stoke on Trent and NuL, Circle of Friends and NatWest who are all doing amazing things in our local communities to support residents 🫶

And a big thank you to Piccoloco for supplying the coffee and providing the perfect base for a catch up with old (& new!) friends! 🙌

We’re excited to see a familiar Ironmarket venue reopen as Vibez under independent ownership 🙌

You might know and love it as Reflex (or The Star or Boozy Dog if you've been around!). Under the change of ownership it’s now Vibez, proudly independently owned by long time manager Kelly Freeman who is investing in a business she knows inside out and believes in 🎶

Kelly said: “I love this bar, I love Newcastle-under-Lyme and I know my customers. The name might be new, but the Vibez are exactly the same! Great music, karaoke and a welcoming atmosphere. This has been a huge team effort and I couldn’t have done it without them.”

Vibez officially opens Friday 16th January. Pop along for a boogie, show your support and help celebrate an exciting new chapter for independent hospitality in the town ✨
