We’ve shared an important update on our website about how we can all help reduce costs across the NHS 👇
https://www.wphc.org.uk/2026/04/01/helping-the-nhs-save-money-please-use-the-nhs-app/

📱 In recent years, the cost of sending text messages has increased significantly.

💷 This means less money available for frontline care and seeing patients.

👉 Last year alone, we sent 25,978 SMS messages.

We’re encouraging patients to use the NHS App so we can send messages free of charge and the NHS can divert the money into getting patients seen.

📊 Did you know?

• 56.5% of our patients have downloaded the app
• BUT 39.3% have notifications turned OFF
• This means many patients aren’t receiving messages we send via the app which converts to an SMS message after 1 hour.

✅ What you can do:

• Download the NHS App
• Turn your notifications ON
• Use it for messages, prescriptions, and appointments

We understand that online access isn’t for everyone — and that’s absolutely fine. We will always continue to support patients in the way that works best for them.

Every small change helps 💚

Together we can save NHS resources and support better patient care.

Last month, 155 appointments were missed at Woodlands Park Health Centre.

That’s 155 opportunities where another patient could have been seen.

We understand that sometimes things come up — but if you can’t attend, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer your appointment to someone else who needs it.

Even a quick call or cancellation online makes a big difference.

Thank you for helping us keep appointments available for everyone 💙

🌬️ Asthma & Hay Fever Season: What You Need to Know 🌼

Spring and summer can be challenging for people with asthma, especially when pollen levels rise. Hay fever can trigger or worsen asthma symptoms, so it’s important to stay on top of your medication and follow your asthma action plan.

💊 Managing Asthma During Hay Fever Season:
• Keep using your preventer and reliever inhalers as prescribed
• Start hay fever treatment early to help reduce symptoms
• Monitor your symptoms more closely on high-pollen days
• Many hay fever treatments (such as antihistamines, eye drops and nasal sprays) are available over the counter from pharmacies and supermarkets without a prescription

Please note: The practice does not prescribe hay fever medication, as these treatments are readily available to purchase over the counter.

If your asthma control feels worse than usual, or you are needing your reliever inhaler more often, please contact us for an asthma review.

Staying prepared can help keep your breathing under control this season. 💙

We are aware of an issue affecting the NHS App and the location of booked appointments. If you are concerned that the NHS App is showing a different location for your appointment, please contact us via 023 80449913 or visit your local surgery to confirm where your appointment is. 🌱 Our commitment to being a greener, more sustainable practice

Did you know…

In the last year alone, just by recycling our paper, we’ve helped save 19 trees from being felled 🌳

That’s the equivalent of 27,846 toilet rolls 📄🚽

We’re proud to be taking practical steps to reduce waste and our environmental impact, and this is just one part of our wider commitment to becoming a greener, more sustainable GP practice for our patients, staff and local community.

Small changes really do add up — and we’ll continue to look for ways to do better 💚

There is heavy traffic on Great North Road due to ongoing road works. If you have an appointment, please leave extra time for your journey. If you need to contact us, call us on 01912362366.

We are aware of misinformation currently circulating on local Facebook groups stating that Dr McCubbin has retired.

We would like to reassure patients that this is incorrect — Dr McCubbin remains working at the practice as usual.

Please rely on information shared directly by the practice through our official channels. If you are ever unsure about something you have seen or heard, our reception team will be happy to help.

Thank you for your continued support.
