We wear our badges with pride and by working in connection with Parkinson's UK we strive to support our community and improve lives of those living with the disease. Our General Manager is a Parkinson's Trained Facilitator, Trained by Knowing Parkinson's which allows us to ensure all our caregivers who support those living with Parkinson's are trained to understand the disease and best ways to support their customers.

As part of our service, we have supplies directly from Parkinson's UK and offer 'Get It On Time' clock posters, stickers and washbags to all our customers with Parkinson's. Putting the right tools in place from the start of the Visiting Angels journey with us for both you or your loved one and the caregiver.

Our Training Room 📚💙🪽

As mentioned in our Q & A last week, as part of your training and becoming an Angel caregiver you will attend a 3 day in-depth training course delivered by our management team. The course will cover all 15 standards of the Care Certificate, Mental Capacity Act, Medication, PPE and Skin Integrity.

We also provide 5 more condition specific courses, plus we encourage and request our caregivers to complete and become a Dementia Friend. This course is ran by Dementia Friends, an Alzheimer's Society Initiative 🌼.

⭐️ How long has Visiting Angels been providing care and support?
💚 Visiting Angels originated in the USA, 26 years ago. We are proud to say we are still a family ran business with the same CEO who started the brand. In 2017 our brand came to the UK, we have a UK CEO who is still present and opened our first location in Sheffield. We now have over 60 branches across England, Scotland and Wales and are the fastest growing Healthcare Brand in the UK. Our mission is to be the employer of choice by 2030.

⭐️ Do I need to have care experience?
💚 No, experience is not required as full training will be given. All we ask from you is to be dedicated to providing ‘top notch’ care and support to your customers. During your interview you will be assessed on your knowledge but also your personality. Being able to demonstrate kindness and compassion is important.

⭐️ How much will I be paid?
💚 Our current starting hourly rate is £12.35, rising after passing your probation after 3 months. You will then also receive another pay rise after 1 year of service and so on. You are paid 35p per mile and your travel time is paid at £10.42 per hour, this will rise in April 2024 in line with the new goverment national minimum wage.

⭐️ What is the minimum visit time?
💚 All our visits start at a minimum of 1 hour up to full time 24/7. This means as a caregivers you have time to ensure that all tasks are completed and you can form a relationship and trust with your customers.

⭐️ How many hours do I have to work?
💚 We will ask you for your availability to ensure we are able to provide you with the hours you require. We will work with you to build up your customer basis around your availability.

⭐️ Is weekend work required?
💚 Yes, care doesn’t stop at a weekend and many of our customers still require care and support at this time. Weekend work availability and shift patterns are discussed at interview.

⭐️ What training will I receive?
💚 At Visiting Angles Newcastle you will complete a 3 day in-depth training course, delivered in house by our Management Team who have themselves been trained to deliver this by a credited training provider. You will cover Moving and Handling, Medication, Basic Life Support, Safeguarding Adults and Children. Alongside of this you will be required to complete the 15 modules of the care certificate and are signed off using practical competencies. We also offer Parkinson’s Training, Oral Health and Dementia Training.

⭐️ Is my training paid?
💚 Yes, after your 3 month probation has been completed and all training has been signed off you will receive a one off payment for your training.

⭐️ What other support is in place?
💚 Our office operates an open door policy and our management team are always there whenever needed. You will be involved in monthly meetings which will offer you guidance but also support the management team to plan for the months ahead. Across our brand have our own Wellbeing Programme designed by Head office and other Healthcare professionals.
