One of the most common questions I'm asked is, 'what's the difference?'. Whether it be between a sports massage and a Thai massage or a deep tissue vs a sports massage, or all three. They all sound and look similar, but there are actually a few differences 👇.

THAI MASSAGE - They aim to improve flexibility, reduce stress, and promote overall well-being. Thai massages can include stretching, yoga-like postures, and pressing on energy points.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE - Focuses on the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It can help with chronic pain, muscle tension, and injuries. Deep tissue massages can also help break up scar tissue, reduce inflammation, and improve circulation.

SPORTS MASSAGE - Focuses on the musculoskeletal system and can help with injury healing and prevention. It can also help relieve pain, stress, and anxiety, and improve circulation.

Have you ever seen those little circles people have on their bodies after a Cupping therapy session and wondered what they were for or what they do? Well here's 5 superb benefits those cups bring with them, making cupping therapy one of the fastest growing rehab treatments available at the moment!

1) Improved Circulation - One of the primary benefits of dry cupping massage is its ability to improve circulation. The cups create a suction that gently pulls the skin and its underlying tissues upwards, promoting blood flow to the treated area. With increased blood flow, more oxygen and nutrients are delivered to your muscles, helping to reduce muscular tension and pain.

2) Pain Relif - If you're suffering from chronic muscle pain, a dry cupping massage can offer significant relief. The suction helps to loosen tight muscles and break up fascia adhesions, which are knots or bands of tissue that can contribute to pain. Additionally, the increased blood flow mentioned earlier can further reduce inflammation and discomfort.

3) Stress Reduction - The gentle pressure and rhythmic strokes of dry cupping massage can have a deeply calming effect on the nervous system. This may also help to reduce stress and anxiety levels. Plus, improved circulation and pain relief can also contribute to a more relaxed and centred state of mind.

4) Enhanced Range of Motion - When muscles are tight and painful, your range of motion can become restricted. Dry cupping massage can help to improve flexibility by loosening muscles and fascia adhesions. This allows for a greater range of motion in your joints, leading to improved mobility and function.

5) Detoxification - Some proponents of dry cupping believe that it can help to detoxify the body. The suction is thought to pull out toxins and waste products from the tissues, promoting lymphatic drainage and overall detoxification. While more research is needed to confirm this claim, many people report feeling lighter and more energised after a dry cupping massage session.

Do you foam roll often? Is it worth it? In summary, yes - but the benefits are short lived. Combine it with good stretching and of course some sports massages to take full advantage of the recovery benefits a foam roller can help you with.

Facts and Myths 👇

Fact 1 ✅️ - Foam rolling can decrease the sensation of DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) for up to 24-72 hours after exercise.

Fact 2 ✅️ - There is a clear correlation between foam rolling and a temporary boost in functional range of motion and flexibility.

Fact 3 ✅️ - Foam rolling can provide temporary pain relief through a mechanism called ‘neural inhibition’. In other words, it interrupts the pain message.

Fact 4 ✅️ - Foam rolling can enhance an athlete’s perception of recovery slightly more than passive recovery. This can help on a psychological level for peak performance.

Myth 1 ❌️ - Foam rolling can break down scar tissue

Myth 2 ❌️ - Foam rolling can release fascial tension

Myth 3 ❌️ - Foam rolling can reduce IT band tightness (it takes more than 900kg to lengthen the IT band by just 1%)
