📚✏️ Back to School = Busy GP Surgeries!

With kids heading back to school this week, many GP practices are seeing a rise in appointments for common childhood illnesses and minor conditions. But did you know your local pharmacy can often help first – without the need to see a GP? 👩‍⚕️💊

Through the Pharmacy First scheme, most pharmacies can provide advice, treatment, and even prescription medicines for:
âś… Impetigo (1 year+)
âś… Infected insect bites (1 year+)
✅ Earache (ages 1–17)
âś… Sore throat (5 years+)
âś… Sinusitis (12 years+)
✅ Urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women (16–64 years)
âś… Shingles (18 years+)

👉 If you’re outside these age ranges, pharmacists can still give expert advice and recommend over-the-counter treatments. And if needed, they’ll refer you to a GP or another health professional.

Best of all, your GP record will be updated automatically – but your information stays private.

So before booking a GP appointment, check in with your local pharmacy first. It could save you time (and a waiting room visit!) while still getting the care you need.

👩‍👩‍👧 Share this with other parents to help keep GP appointments free for those who really need them!
