Last night my October cohort students led their first meditations for each other. For some, it was the first time they had ever stepped up in this way; for others, it already felt super natural and embodied. Either way, it was a huge moment and I’m so deeply grateful for all of my students for showing up with such courage, and love for each other.
It got me reflecting deeper on the first time I ever led a meditation.....It was online, during lockdown. A colleague reached out asking if I’d guide regular sessions for the staff at Changing Lives. I remember the fear so clearly, nearly every part of me was shouting NO NO NO but something in me trusted the synchronicity. I’d been dreaming for years of holding space in this way, but hadn’t yet found the courage to lean fully in.
Anyways, I said a little YES and prepared for days. Perfecting, perfecting, perfecting! 🫣 The perfectionist was in full swing those days!!!!
Offering that meditation was a huge milestone. A true breakthrough that opened the path I’m now walking.
I still remember the intensity of that moment though.
Especially when I closed my laptop afterwards.
My heart pounding
My jaw trembling
My teeth chattering
My yawns on full patrol for a solid 10 minutes
My mind spinning with you’re rubbish; you can’t do this, you’re not good enough
But beneath all that noise, there was a little pocket of truth; a remembrance that this was my path and to keep going
Can’t believe that was just over 5 years ago.
Everytime we say YES to ourselves we open doors to growth and possibility. We open to the paths that we’re meant to be walking.
I still get overwhelmed at times, and I still feel major imposture syndrome and doubt my-self. But the voice beneath it all is more clear, louder and sometimes so powerful that the noise dissolves, and all that remains is complete trust in my intuitive guidance.
This reflection has me so excited for the next 5 years; for me and for my students.
What I know for sure is that it’s saying YES to the things that scare us is what makes this all possible.
What are you saying yes to right now?
