Thank you to the incredible jurors, speakers, and exhibitors who joined the Citizens’ Jury Pain Management Event! 🙌

❓ Earlier this year, we asked a jury of 14 members of the public: “How can we shift away from medical intervention to better support people living with persistent pain?”

Yesterday, we shared their recommendations for further feedback and discussion.

Speakers highlighted the challenges of current pain management, the need to treat pain as a long-term condition, and the importance of system-level reform rather than blaming individuals. Juror Lynn Laidler reminded us that “choice is a privilege.”

We hope these recommendations are taken forward by the regional healthcare system, helping to ensure that people living with persistent pain have a say in their care and that services are truly co-produced to improve outcomes and quality of life.

Earlier today at our Citizens’ Jury on Pain Management event, Dr Deepak Ravindran challenged the room to think differently about how we approach persistent pain - asking why we don’t yet have services that address obesity and musculoskeletal health together, despite their close links.

He highlighted the need for greater investment in primary care to prevent patients “pinballing” between services, and called for community-wide, wraparound support to sustain progress after hospital care.
