The day I thought I’d never see my children again…
20 years ago today — 7th July 2005 — I was in London, at the Institute of Fundraising, completing their Fundraising Management Course. What should have been a proud and pivotal moment in my career quickly turned into a day of fear and uncertainty.
When the 7/7 terrorist attacks struck the capital, everything stopped. Sirens replaced conversations. Panic replaced routine. Lives were lost. And like many others caught in the chaos, I was gripped by one overwhelming thought: Will I ever make it home to my children?
Thankfully, I did. But not everyone did.
That day changed something in me. It deepened my understanding of trauma, loss and the fragility of life — and ultimately led to the work I now do as The Coping Specialist.
If you or someone you love is struggling with grief or the weight of past trauma, I now offer one-to-one grief and loss sessions. As someone who has walked through it myself, I offer not just professional support - but lived experience and understanding.
