So, today whilst I was having a coffee with my husband in our local coffee shop, I was asked a question by a staff member who had over heard our conversation " What is Pilates " the lady asked. She was suffering aches + pains and wanting what everyone wants (a miracle). So I had a chat with her about what Pilates is, why I started teaching Pilates and my own journey with recent spinal surgery etc and advised her to do a little research and look into it for herself, give a class a go (don't just trust my word)
For anyone wanting a little insight into Pilates this is for you.
What is Pilates – and why is it for EVERY body?
Pilates is a low-impact, full-body method of exercise designed to improve strength, flexibility, posture, and overall body awareness. But it’s so much more than just movement — it’s about how you move.
At its core, Pilates focuses on:
💫 Controlled, precise movements
💫 Breath and mind-body connection
💫 Strengthening from the inside out (hello core!)
💫 Alignment and posture
Why is Pilates so beneficial?
👌Builds deep core strength
Not just your abs — Pilates strengthens the muscles that support your spine and pelvis, helping you move better and feel stronger in everyday life.
👌Improves posture & reduces pain
By correcting imbalances and strengthening stabilising muscles, Pilates can help relieve back, neck, and joint discomfort.
👌Increases flexibility & mobility
Gentle, controlled movements help improve range of motion without strain.
👌 Enhances balance & coordination
Perfect for all ages — especially important for injury prevention and longevity.
👌 Supports mental wellbeing
The focus on breath and control helps reduce stress, improve concentration, and create a sense of calm.
🥰 The best part? Pilates is for everyone.
Whether you’re a complete beginner, returning from injury, pre/post-natal, or looking to enhance athletic performance — Pilates meets you where you are.
It can be adapted, progressed, and tailored to YOUR body.
💫 Stronger. More mobile. More connected.
That’s the power of Pilates.
Don't judge a book by its cover, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you find beneath those pages.
Give it a go
To the lady in the shop, thanks for listening
