Sam will talk about the Long Way Round - Achieving your dreams when life doesn’t go to plan
Sam's Key Messages or Life Lessons are.........
We all have dreams, goals we work towards, and plans we make for our lives. But what happens when life doesn’t go to plan?
Sometimes all we can do is trust the universe, trust that we are in the right place at the right time, even if it doesn't feel like that in the moment. We can't predict the future, and we can't control all the outcomes of our decisions. We make the best choice in the moment, and we move forward along the path.
Sam was motivated by the question “What’s next?” Her life was mapped as a series of goals to be achieved and ticked off. Sam achieved her dream and became a teacher. The reality was different from what she had imagined, and 5 years later, Sam made the life-changing decision to leave the dream job and abandon the plan.
Sam had lost her sense of self and her purpose, Sam thought she was struggling with her mental health. What followed the decision to leave the dream job was a series of detours, discoveries along the road, new friends, and new experiences.
Journalling has been an important tool for Sam; it has allowed her to capture and process her experiences, reflect on her journey, and help find meaning and reconnect with her sense of self. Reflection is an essential part of the process. Sam is a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, and by sharing our experiences, we can help others.
Sam is a creative storyteller, crochet designer, journal-maker, and educator. I continue to be a passionate educator, working with young people, supporting them to dream big. I have also followed my own curiosity, writing stories that I bring to life with colourful crochet characters.
