Unlike many places you can go for a massage, at The Therapy Rooms, a therapeutic massage treatment involves an in depth consultation and spinal assessment. You’ll be asked to talk about your lifestyle and your therapist will be able to make practical constructive suggestions as to how you can improve your health. For most people, their health and the reason they need a massage, isn’t just the result of one simple event, but many lifestyle choices. At The Therapy Rooms we can help in, not only dealing with the symptoms of the problem but also helping you to find out the underlying causes.

💤✨ How would you rate the quality of your sleep? ✨💤

A recent clinical study has shown that aromatherapy (as we know) can do more than just smell amazing. In addition to its many uses, it can actually reduce anxiety and improve sleep quality too. 🌙💛

In particular, the calming aromas of Citrus Aurantium and Chamomile were found to have powerful relaxing effects, helping people feel more at ease and drift into a better night’s rest. 🍊🌼

🥑💚 Happy # NationalGuacamoleDay ! 💚🥑

Who needs an excuse to enjoy a bowl of creamy guac? I thought today was the perfect day to mention reasons why guacamole is actually good for you (if you were looking for reasons ...)

✅ Heart-healthy fats - yes, avocados are packed with monounsaturated fats that can help support a healthy heart.

✅ Full of fibre - it's true, as they are full of fibre avocados keep you fuller for longer and helps support digestion.

✅ Rich in vitamins & minerals - and when I say full ..... think potassium, vitamin C, vitamin E, and more to boost your wellbeing.

✨ You don't have to make Guacamole the same way each time. Have you ever tried ...

👉 Adding mango or pineapple for a tropical kick 🍍

👉 Mixing in roasted red peppers for a smoky flavour 🌶️

👉 Spicing it up with jalapeños or chilli for extra heat 🔥

So, whether you’re scooping it up with veggies, spreading it on toast, or topping your tacos without a doubt today is the day to go all in on guac!

⚡ The Energy Expenditure of Massage Therapists

Massage therapy isn’t just demanding for clients—it’s also hard physical work for therapists. But how much energy does a massage therapist actually use during a treatment?

A team of researchers from Poland set out to measure this by analyzing cardio-respiratory responses, energy expenditure, and perceived exertion during common classical massage techniques.

👩‍🔬 The Study

Participants: 13 massage therapists (average age 22 years, BMI ~25 kg/m²).

Techniques tested: Stroking, kneading, shaking, beating, rubbing, and direct vibration.

Measures: %VO₂max, %HRmax, %HRR, energy expenditure (EE), and metabolic equivalents (METs).

⚡ Key Findings

Intensity:

47% of maximal oxygen consumption (VO₂max)

75% of maximal heart rate (HRmax)

48% of heart rate reserve (HRR)

Energy Expenditure:

5.6 ± 0.9 kcal per minute

~336 kcal per hour (similar to running 5 km or 30 minutes of cardio)

For a 5-hour workday: ~1700 kcal, classifying massage work as hard work

Perceived Exertion:

Average 12/20 on the RPE scale (moderate to hard effort).

Most Demanding Technique:

Rubbing showed the highest exercise intensity.

📌 Conclusion
Performing a full massage session is physiologically equivalent to heavy physical labor. Massage therapists consistently burn a high amount of energy during a work shift, highlighting the physical demands of their profession.

🌿✨ Essential Oils & Your Wellbeing ✨🌿

Essential oils aren’t just about beautiful aromas – many carry natural antibacterial properties and these days are in high demand🌸

A recent study looked at some of our favourites – oregano, eucalyptus, rosemary, clove, and peppermint. The results? At the right concentration, all showed antibacterial and antibiofilm effects. 🌱 However, as concentrations dropped, so did their effectiveness.

🔑 The takeaway? Not all oils are created equal. You need to shop carefully as there are so many different manufacturers these days. If you are using them specifically for their antibacterial effects, you don't want your oil the be heavily concentrated!

💚 If you love essential oils as much as we do, always choose carefully and invest in high-quality oils that truly support your health and wellbeing.
