๐ Whatโs a Corpus Luteum?
(And why your sonographer might mention it!) ๐
During early pregnancy scans, you may hear your sonographer say they can see a corpus luteum and donโt worry, itโs completely normal.
After you ovulate, the follicle that released your egg turns into a small, hormone-producing structure called the corpus luteum. ๐
Its job in early pregnancy is essential:
โจ It produces progesterone, the hormone that supports your pregnancy until the placenta takes over.
On an ultrasound, it can look like a small cyst on the o***y, but itโs supposed to be there.
In fact, spotting a healthy corpus luteum is often a reassuring sign that your body is doing exactly what it should. ๐
