🏎️ RGS Photon Racing at the STEM Racing UK National Finals🏁

A huge well done to our Year 12 Photon Professional Class Racing Team, who were the only team representing the entire North East at this year’s STEM Racing National Finals!

Thank you to the team's sponsors: Notify Technology, Guerrilla Communications, Farah Chemists, Northumbria University, Newcastle University, BreathTec, F1 Bearings and Dasis Partners, whose backing made competitive entry possible.

Special thanks to Notify, who generously donated £250, funding the Photon's kit and pit display - vital contributions to the team's high‑quality presentation at Nationals.

Leo S, Head of Branding & Graphic Design, said: "None of this would have happened without Notify. We literally could not have done it without them. Thank you so much for your support!”

Roo D, Head of Design, added: "Competing in STEM Racing has been an enriching experience - from designing and manufacturing two cars to creating portfolios, a pit display and a team kit we are genuinely proud of. The National Finals gave us the chance to share our work and connect with other like‑minded teams.”

Well done, Photon Racing - a brilliant achievement showcasing effective teamwork, innovation and ambition.👏

From bargaining in the bustling Marrakesh markets and exploring historic towns to travelling over the snowy Atlas Mountains, our A-Level Geographers had an unforgettable time in Morocco!

The highlight? A breathtaking journey into the Sahara Desert - riding camels across the dunes, watching the sunset and sunrise, and enjoying traditional Berber music under the stars. 🐪🌅

A HUGE thank you to Mrs Morrow, Mrs Leigh and Mr Johnston for making this incredible experience possible.💛

RGS x Express Yourself: North East Festival of Languages🌎🗣️

As part of the Express Yourself: North East Festival of Languages, our Year 12 French, Spanish and German students visited the Language Centre at Northumbria University for an inspiring afternoon of interactive language activities.

Led by university staff and students, the afternoon sessions explored language learning at university, the benefits of studying abroad and where languages could take them next.

💬 Student reflections: “The day was very enjoyable and interesting. We learned a lot about what it would be like to pursue languages at university, and it was fascinating to hear about year‑abroad experiences too.”

Thank you to Northumbria University for hosting us!👏

Newcastle Youth Elections 🗳️ Voting took place during the Spring Term, and it was fantastic to see our school community engaging so thoughtfully with the democratic process.

Students took time to read the manifestos, ask questions and cast their votes - a brilliant example of active citizenship in action.

Well done to all six RGS students who stood for election - your confidence, commitment and willingness to represent others should be celebrated.👏

Special congratulations to Chirag H (Y10) on being elected to the Newcastle Youth Council!

Reflecting on the experience, Chirag shared his gratitude for the support shown and his excitement to represent young people across Newcastle.

"Being on the Youth Council allows me to represent young people across Newcastle, challenge discrimination, and push for stronger political and financial education. I am looking forward to working with others, bringing our ideas to life, and ensuring that our voices are taken seriously."

Thank you to everyone who took part. Your voices matters.💫

Earlier this term, The Summit Society celebrated its inaugural outing, heading to the Langdales and taking in seven Wainwrights during their Saturday hike.⤵️

As well as conquering the peaks, along the way students recited Greek mythology, practised their lineout lifting, read some Jane Austen and sang together.

As Orran (Y12) put it: “Seven Wainwrights, 900 metres of elevation, 34,000 steps later… the Summit Society's inaugural walk was an absolute success! The teamwork, community and breath taking views made every step worth it.”

RGS students and staff enjoyed a stunning March day in the fells, taking in unforgettable views - the perfect start to the Summit Society! Here’s to many more adventures ahead. 🌄💛

No Friday Café is complete without our uplifting Junior School drama performances. Well done to all involved.👏

We hope everyone in our community enjoys the Easter holidays, sharing sweet treats with friends and family (hopefully) in the sunshine.
