Postural tension has been a hot topic for years and for good reason.

With the continued rise in desk-based jobs and working from home (often with crappy or no setups), physiotherapists are seeing more cases of neck pain, upper back tension and even cervical radiculopathy.

Good posture matters, but it’s not about sitting like a robot.

Your body isn’t designed to stay in one position all day. Joints and muscles need regular movement. Simply “sitting up straight” isn’t enough.

Research increasingly shows that prolonged sedentary behaviour is a bigger contributor to musculoskeletal issues than posture alone.

That said, consistently loading your spine in the same position for long periods can contribute to pain and stiffness over time, which lead to long term conditions that are difficult or impossible to reverse!

The real solution?

Move more and change positions often. Build strength. Support your body so it can tolerate the demands you place on it.

I give an hour for each session whether it’s a follow up or an assessment, rehab or a massage/cupping/IASTM etc.

Why?

(It’s not to take more money, it’s cheaper to get an hour with me that 30 minutes at most clinics)

It’s because it keeps my diary clean. It gives patients a chance to talk through their rehab or injury without feeling like we have to rush into assessment and treatment and it leaves patients with enough time to sit, recover and gather themselves, no being rushed out the door.

A session may look something like this:

History: 10 Minutes.
Assessment: 15 Minutes.
Treatment: 20 Minutes.
Rehab: 10 Minutes.

Or it may be just:

History: 5 Minutes.
Treatment: 50 Minutes.

It depends what needs to be done to get the patient better and enable them to keep going after they leave!

I don’t want to shorten appointments and I don’t like it when I’ve worked for places in the past and you’re trying to get everything done in 30 minutes.

That’s why I charge the same price and YOU get the same amount of time each session!
