Can lifestyle changes help manage menopause symptoms?

We asked Dr Katherine Gilmore, and her answer was clear: for some women, the right lifestyle changes can significantly improve and in certain cases even reverse menopause symptoms.

That said, lifestyle alone isn’t always enough for everyone, and we’ll also be discussing medical options in our next video.

What is universal? Supporting your body through this transition matters. Whether it’s moving more, prioritising quality sleep, reducing alcohol, or quitting smoking, small changes can make a meaningful difference.

Menopause is a powerful reminder to prioritise self-care, if your circumstances allow.

Not sure where to start? We’ll be sharing practical, easy-to-follow tips soon, and remember, your healthcare professional is always there to support you too.

What’s been the hardest truth about endometriosis for you to accept? We’d love to hear your experiences.

Endometriosis Awareness Month is here. While it brings so much positive impact by increasing understanding of this debilitating disease, it also creates space for opportunists, charlatans, and unqualified voices to prey on vulnerable women.

That’s why we think it’s important to talk about some of the harder truths surrounding endometriosis, the realities many of us are still navigating right now.

We remain hopeful for the future. The more we advocate, speak up, and push for better research, the closer we get to real change ❤️

Perimenopause vs menopause: what’s the difference?

And which symptoms are actually caused by estrogen fluctuations?

We’re so glad we were able to film this series with Dr Katherine Gilmore.

It’s so important to have real, qualified experts answering these questions and helping to cut through the noise around women’s health.

Katherine works as a consultant in Communal and Reproductive Health across the North East, including Nuffield Health Hospital in Newcastle and South Tyneside and Sunderlnad NHS Foundation Trust.

We can’t wait to share more from this series - keep your eyes peeled 👀

Last Friday, I met with the amazing Dr. Katherine Gilmore to talk about all things menopause, and it was so insightful! I’m so glad we have experts in our region who are rooted in evidence-based knowledge and are able to deliver it in such an easy and engaging way.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing the content we recorded and answering many of the questions you had. From the basics, like when perimenopause becomes menopause and what HRT actually is, to the questions many of us really want answered: what our intimate lives might look like during and after menopause, and what menopause means for those of us who suffer from endometriosis.

I can’t wait to share everything I learned from Katherine. If you have any more questions, send them our way and we’ll do our best to host more sessions like this with Katherine!

As Eating Disorders Awareness Week draws to a close, I wanted to end on a positive and practical note with a few tips for parents who are helping their children navigate the pressures of social media.
1. Start an open conversation about who they follow and how those posts make them feel. Encourage honesty and curiosity rather than judgment.
2. Introduce them to positive role models on these platforms. Look for people who focus on achievements, interests, creativity, or hobbies rather than appearance.
3. Help them find supportive communities online. There are spaces that promote encouragement, shared interests, and healthy perspectives, and guiding them toward those can make a real difference.
4. Let them know that feeling low or inadequate because of social media is a common experience. Reassure them that we all feel like that at times, but it is important not to ignore those feelings. We can take action by unfollowing accounts, limiting time online, or talking about what is coming up for us.

Ultimately, social media is a tool. It can be both harmful and helpful. As parents, we play a crucial role in teaching our children how to use it wisely and with self awareness. And it is worth remembering to follow our own advice as well.

Yesterday marked the start of , organised by . This year’s theme is community, something that couldn’t feel more aligned with what we’re building at She Thrives NE.

She Thrives NE is about creating a space where women don’t feel isolated while navigating the trials and tribulations of life and health, including complex mental health conditions such as eating disorders.

Eating disorders can be incredibly isolating. They often convince you that you’re alone in your struggle, but you’re not. Knowing that others understand, that many people are fighting similar battles, and that support is available can be the first powerful step toward seeking help.

There are resources available in our region, and a great place to start is Beat. Whether you’re looking for information, support for yourself, or guidance on how to help someone else, reaching out can make all the difference.

Talking openly about eating disorders matters. The more we understand them, the quicker they can be recognised, diagnosed, and treated appropriately - leading to better outcomes and, hopefully, full recovery.

So let’s keep the conversation going.
Let’s share the resources.
Let’s be each other’s community.
