We had a lovely morning!
Interacting with a music wall improves fine motor control, hand-eye coordination, and gross motor skills as children reach, tap, and shake instruments. It helps children explore sounds, volume, and cause-and-effect and promotes pre-phonics and pre-reading skills by tuning their ears to different sounds and rhythmic patterns. Music walls also encourage children to work together to create music, teaching them cooperation, communication, and social skills, and the freedom to explore and create sounds without being told "how" boosts self-esteem and independence. Our music wall is not just about making a lot of noise!!!!!

Red, orange, yellow green blue, indigo and violet too! This week preschool have been learning about the order of the colours of the rainbow with the help of Numberblock 7 and in honour of Saint Patrick's Day! They have explored colour mixing using paint, playdoh and water, and have created rainbows using lots of different media. They listened to the story of The Greedy Rainbow and then "stole" the colours, counting out 1, 2, or 3, before giving the colours back and creating a whole new rainbow. Preschool are now rainbow experts!

We dressed in green to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day! We went on a rainbow hunt and found a pot of gold! We were allowed to take one piece each! We had Irish stew and dumplings for lunch with shamrock biscuits for dessert. We also tried soda bread. We listened to a story about Lucky Leprechauns and also Peppa Pig visiting Ireland to end our day.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar!
As our teeny tiny caterpillars have arrived the children have been learning about their lifecycle with the help of The Very Hungry Caterpillar! They have also joined in with lots of activities to promote their learning in all areas from making repeating pattern caterpillars to learning about symmetry by decorating butterfly wings and dancing like caterpillars and butterflies during our morning exercise. Our younger children have been learning about size and colours whilst posting and have also been counting whilst feeding the caterpillar fruit. The children rolled balls and sausages with the icing and playdoh to make caterpillar biscuits and models. All the children have enjoyed listening to the story and preschool have been developing their observational skills trying to remember which food that the caterpillar ate had gone missing from the tray. Now we wait for our caterpillars to continue "eating and a growing" until they are big and tired and ready to make a cocoon. According to the story that will take more than two weeks. Hopefully the transformation will occur before the Easter holidays!

In the light of the moon a little egg lay on a leaf, then pop, out of the egg came a tint caterpillar. He started to look for some food and became a big, fat caterpillar. He made himself a cocoon and stayed inside for more than two weeks then emerged as a beautiful butterfly! Our tiny caterpillars arrived this morning so we will be able to watch this metamorphosis first hand.

We went on a ladybird hunt! We found lots of ladybirds to stick on our leaves and then we found lots of real ladybirds! We observed how she lifted her red wings and used her wings underneath to fly, just like we had learned in our story. At the end of the hunt we counted all our ladybirds and compared the numbers to see who had the most and least.
