Did you know your Temporomandibular joint (TMJ), more commonly known as the jaw, is the most used joint in your body?
Talking, eating, yawning, singing....all rely on multiple movements of this joint each day, resulting in overuse & strains in the soft tissues involved in normal TMJ function.
Add to this the impact of multiple dental procedures (requiring keeping the mouth open for lengthy periods), stress (leading to jaw clenching & teeth grinding), & previous head/neck/jaw injuries, all of which can create soft tissue trauma, restrictions & imbalances which can effect normal jaw function & lead to pain.
Common symptoms of TMJ disfunction can include;
Pain around the joint, upper/lower jaws, cheekbones, forehead, temples
Frequent headaches or migraines
Neck pain or restricted movement
Trismus (limited mouth opening), bruxism (teeth grinding/clenching)
Shoulder pain or restricted movement
Jaw misalignment
Pain in upper/lower teeth with no traceable cause
Tinnitus, brain fog, ear congestion
Plus more...
Additionally, the TMJ & pelvis directly mirror each other, so it's not uncommon to find TMJ & pelvic/hip imbalances co-existing.
