Did you know your Temporomandibular joint (TMJ), more commonly known as the jaw, is the most used joint in your body?

Talking, eating, yawning, singing....all rely on multiple movements of this joint each day, resulting in overuse & strains in the soft tissues involved in normal TMJ function.

Add to this the impact of multiple dental procedures (requiring keeping the mouth open for lengthy periods), stress (leading to jaw clenching & teeth grinding), & previous head/neck/jaw injuries, all of which can create soft tissue trauma, restrictions & imbalances which can effect normal jaw function & lead to pain.

Common symptoms of TMJ disfunction can include;
Pain around the joint, upper/lower jaws, cheekbones, forehead, temples
Frequent headaches or migraines
Neck pain or restricted movement
Trismus (limited mouth opening), bruxism (teeth grinding/clenching)
Shoulder pain or restricted movement
Jaw misalignment
Pain in upper/lower teeth with no traceable cause
Tinnitus, brain fog, ear congestion
Plus more...

Additionally, the TMJ & pelvis directly mirror each other, so it's not uncommon to find TMJ & pelvic/hip imbalances co-existing.

Time for a recap of the services I offer to bring you out of pain & into whole body balance....

The Bowen Technique
TMJ Therapy
McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release
Massage
Reflexology

The Bowen Technique is a light touch technique which works with your body's fascia (connective tissue found throughout the body) & your nervous system, helping to relieve pain & restricted movement while increasing overall wellbeing.

Rather than focusing solely on the area you are experiencing pain, a Bowen Therapist looks at the whole body to unravel compensatory patterns of movement or posture to support you in your recovery from acute & chronic issues.

As a holistic therapist a Bowen Technique practitioner will take into account your history of injuries & surgeries, lifestyle factors & emotional state when planning your bespoke treatment.

A course of treatments is always recommended to feel the full benefit of the technique & secure lasting results.

Why do I do what I do?

I was never one of those kids who had a strong idea of what I wanted to be - in fact while in school I don't think I ever thought that far ahead!

My mum often suggested "physiotherapist" as a career path for me - I didn't even know what that was!

But now here I am, having taken a less traditional pathway to working with the body to help resolve issues similar to those I would have been resolving had I followed my mum's advice.🤔

Having done a string of very different, unfulfilling roles I have found my Ikigai - that which fills me with joy & makes me feel at home🤗

These are the reasons I love my job:
🔥Passion - for helping others find peace in their own bodies again

👣Variety - perfect for a busy brain that easily gets bored! My job means I get to work with a variety of different people & dogs using a variety of therapeutic tools

🖌Creativity - no 2 people are the same, even if they have the same symptoms. Each session is creatively crafted to suit the body & nervous system that walks through the door for optimal outcomes

👐Hands that listen - I love working with my hands- but a bodyworkers' skills are not just about knowing the technique & applying it to the anatomy – we have highly sensitive hands that are able to feel & “listen” to what the tissues are saying. This is one of the most exciting parts of my job!

🧐Knowledge & learning - you never stop learning about the body! My therapeutic journey has lead me down educational paths & opened new avenues I never had considered before. (Watch out for some new services brewing that will be available later in the year! )

❓Problem solving - I love a challenge (within reason!) & running a small business in a competitive industry certainly keeps me on my toes!

Have you found your Ikigai?💚🩵🖤

Just checking in....
We're a few days in to February- how are you feeling?

Are you getting plenty of rest?

Are you sleeping well?

Are you drinking plenty of water?

Are you making sure to keep moving to prevent stiffness?

Are you feeling good in your body or are there areas that are giving you grief?

To make it more accessible to access my services it's now possible to set up payment plans to help spread the cost of a course of treatments.

Get in touch.if cost has been putting you off booking in 💚🩵🖤

Happy imbolc!🌿💚🩵🖤

The return of the light is here!
A time when winter transitions into Spring.

There will be more cold, there will be more rain, there may even be some snow.....

But rejoice in the knowing that under your feet nature is stirring, plants are preparing to grow & the mud takes on a new quality....

Somewhere between sticky treacle & squelchy ice, this month's mud presents walkers with new challenges!

Such as the forward motion of the upper limb, only to find the lower limb gets left behind as the foot is stuck in place!

Or the occasional slippy patch that takes you by surprise & embarrasses you by forcing you to do the splits!

February, that glorious month of sprains, strains & other mud inflicted injuries!

A promising time for handing yourself over to your local bodyworker to help ease your hard working ankles, knees & hips & restore some of the balance lost in navigating the treacherous paths in your corner of the world!💚🩵🖤

Our Story

The Bowen Technique/Canine Bowen Therapy is a complementary physical therapy which uses gentle rolling moves over soft tissue interspersed with breaks .

Relief from pain & discomfort, reduced stiffness & muscular tension, increased relaxation & a boost to wellbeing are some of the results often reported by clients after a series of 2-4 treatments.
