🌸 Floral Tributes – A Beautiful Way to Say Goodbye 🌸

Flowers have long been a part of farewells, offering comfort, beauty, and a gentle way to express emotions when words feel hard to find.

At Cornwall Funeral Services, we see how floral tributes bring a personal touch to each service. From traditional wreaths and sprays to bespoke arrangements that reflect a loved one’s hobbies, passions, or personality, flowers are a perfect way to honour someone.

We are exceptionally lucky to have brilliant, close relationships with a number of local florists who we know will work with you to create a tribute that truly reflects your loved one.

Below are just a few examples of the beautiful tributes we have had through our doors. If you have any questions about floral tributes, why don't you comment on this post or give us a call!

Every now and then, we hear a song that is sang just 'a little' differently.....this amazing version of 'Fix you' gave us goosebumps!!
How wonderful to turn an audience of every colour, race, religion and creed into one beautiful choir.
A small touch of humanity delivered effortlessly by two very talented musicians

Today we have the great honour to be at Centenary Methodist Church in Newlyn to say farewell to a bright and colourful local lady. Although the weather is 'changeable' today, the place that she called home is always beautiful and picturesque.💛💚💛

Why do Funeral Directors Walk in Front of a Hearse? 🎩

At Cornwall Funeral Services, one of the most symbolic moments during a funeral is when the funeral director walks in front of the hearse. Known as "paging", this gesture is more than tradition—it’s a meaningful act of respect, reflection, and reverence.

But where does it come from?
This custom dates back to the days of horse-drawn hearses, when a funeral director would lead the cortege on foot through village streets, ensuring a steady pace and showing dignity throughout the journey. It was a public acknowledgement of a death in the community—a quiet invitation for others to stop, bow their heads, and pay their respects.

Today, we uphold this tradition for the very same reasons:
– To create a moment of stillness and solemnity
– To lead the farewell with care and dignity
– And to honour the unique life of the person we are accompanying on their final journey

It’s a small act, but one that carries great meaning. 💚💛

Why do we do what we do
At Cornwall Funeral Services, it’s more than a job — it’s a commitment to care.
Scott, Matt, Morgan, Dave and Ann all chose this profession for the same reason:
To be there when people need someone most.
To listen. To guide. To help families say goodbye with dignity and love.
We do it because:
💬 A kind word can bring real comfort.
🕯️ A well-prepared service can bring peace.
❤️ And every life deserves to be honoured properly.
We're proud to walk alongside our community in both sorrow and remembrance.
If you ever need us — we’re here.

🌍💛 World Friendship Day – 30th July 2025 💛🌍
Friendship has the power to unite people across borders, beliefs, and backgrounds — and World Friendship Day, also known as the International Day of Friendship, is our global reminder of just that.
Celebrated this year on Wednesday 30th July 2025, this special day encourages individuals, communities, and nations to recognise the strength found in kindness, empathy, and connection.
Established by the United Nations, it’s a chance to:
✨ Celebrate lifelong friendships
🤝 Reach out to someone new
🌎 Reflect on how friendship can help build a more peaceful, understanding world
In times of conflict or isolation, friendship can be the bridge that brings people together. So today, whether near or far, take a moment to appreciate those who stand by you — and consider being that person for someone else.
Let’s make the world a little warmer, one friendship at a time.

💚 Reminding everyone that help is always available

✨ You can get involved by:

🇬🇧 Why do funerals in the UK take longer than in other countries?

It’s something we’re often asked — why does it take over a week (sometimes longer) to arrange a funeral here, when in some places it happens within a day or two?

Here’s why 👇

📝 Legal steps first
In the UK, a death must be formally registered before anything else can happen. If it was unexpected, a coroner may also need to investigate — and that can add several days or more.

☀️ Climate & culture
In warmer countries, funerals happen more quickly — often due to the heat and longstanding cultural traditions. It's not unusual for them to take place within 24–48 hours.

💐 Time to personalise
Here in the UK, families often want time to plan something more personal — choosing flowers, music, readings and making sure loved ones can attend.

📅 Availability
Crematoria and venues can be busy, especially in certain areas — meaning you may need to wait for the next available date and time.

So while it might feel frustrating, the wait is usually due to law, logistics and tradition — not because anyone is dragging their feet.

❤️ If you ever have questions, we’re here to help explain the process.

According to old English folklore,
“St Swithin’s Day, if thou dost rain,
For forty days it will remain;
St Swithin’s Day, if thou be fair,
For forty days 'twill rain nae mair.”

A charming tradition — and a reminder of how weather has long been a symbol of hope, change, and the passing of time. 🌦️

Whether it rains or shines today, it’s a lovely moment to pause, reflect, and remember those we love and miss.

At Cornwall Funeral Services, we understand that certain dates — even old folklore ones — can stir memories. If you're thinking of someone special today, we’re thinking of you too. ❤️

🌿 National Simplicity Day – July 12th 🌿

In a world that often feels rushed and complicated, today is a reminder to slow down and embrace simplicity. Whether it’s decluttering your space, taking a quiet moment for yourself, or focusing on what truly matters — simplicity brings clarity and peace.

At Cornwall Funeral Services, we believe that caring for others starts with simple, meaningful actions. By simplifying the way we support families during difficult times, we help create comfort and understanding when it matters most.

Let’s celebrate National Simplicity Day by finding joy in the little things and making life a bit easier—for ourselves and those around us. 💙
