Slimming World began in 1969, when Margaret Miles-Bramwell OBE opened the very first group in a church hall in Alfreton, Derbyshire BBC +1. Margaret knew from her own experience that losing weight wasn’t just about food—it was about support, kindness, and belief. She wanted to create a place where no one felt judged, only encouraged.

From that single hall, Slimming World grew into a nationwide family of over 3,500 Consultants and 700,000 members Sky News +3.

Margaret always believed that weight loss should be freeing, not restrictive. She wanted us to keep pioneering, to keep finding new ways to support people, and to never lose sight of the belief that everyone deserves to feel healthy, confident, and celebrated.

Today, every leaflet delivered, every poster hung, and every group meeting held is part of Margaret’s legacy. She asked us to carry her vision forward: to keep building communities of support, to keep innovating, and to keep believing in the power of weight loss to transform lives.

🎄✨ Mindset is Key This Christmas! ✨🎄

At Newport Pagnell & Milton Keynes Slimming World with Lynsey, we’re focusing on mindset in the build-up to Christmas. Just because it’s Christmas doesn’t mean we have to gain a stone… and it certainly doesn’t mean we should feel guilty for enjoying ourselves!

Christmas is about joy, connection, and celebration and with the right mindset, we can enjoy every mince pie, every toast, and every sparkle of the season without losing sight of our goals. 💪

• One choice doesn’t define your journey.

July 2025: “I really want to lose weight, but there’s no point in starting now - I’m going on holiday in 2 weeks”

August 2025: “I still want to lose weight, but I’ll just wait until the schools go back”

September 2025: “ Maybe it’s time to join, but I’ve got two nights out this month so I’ll wait until next month”

October 2025: “Right this month I’m going to start… but Halloween is coming up so I know there will be loads of sweets. I’ll get that out the way first. “

November 2025: “I’m feeling really low, I really really want to lose weight. But I better save my money for Christmas.”

December 2025: “There’s absolutely no point joining in December I’ve got far too many nights out.”

January 2026: “Slimming World will be mobbed just now with it being a brand new year. I’ll just wait until next month.”

February 2026: “I wished I’d joined 6 months ago. If I lost 1.5lb per week I would have been over 3 stones lighter by now. “
