Chocolate, Easter egg hunts and time off school - this is an exciting time of year for many children. Excitement to enjoy Easter treats can increase the risk of choking.

All foods and small objects have the potential to be a choking hazard, so make sure food is cut into appropriate sizes pieces and never leave toddlers or small children alone while eating.

Today we were honoured to welcome a visitor to our adult unit whose family has a long and special connection with St John Ambulance.

His father, who sadly passed away three years ago, dedicated over 40 years of service as a St John Ambulance volunteer. He was also one of the first UK paramedics involved in the development of the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), helping shape lifesaving care as we know it today.

St John Ambulance were proud to assist with the funeral procession at the time, and today his son visited us to make a kind donation to the Isle of Wight unit in his memory.

We are incredibly grateful for the continued support and for the lasting legacy his father has left within St John Ambulance and the wider emergency care community.
