Support Worker – Graig Farm Wellbeing Haven
Location: Graig Farm Wellbeing Haven, Upper Cwmbran
Salary: Competitive, with structured pay scales
Contract: Part time, Relief (shift pattern including days, evenings, weekends, waking nights and sleep-ins)
Graig Farm Wellbeing Haven is a nurturing, therapeutic environment for children looked after, with social, emotional and behavioural challenges. We aim to provide a safe environment where they can grow, heal, and thrive. We are looking for compassionate, dedicated Support Workers to join our team and make a meaningful difference every day.
About the Role
As a Support Worker, you will be part of a caring team that supports young people in their daily lives. You will help create a homely, safe environment where young people feel valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.
You’ll act as a positive role model, build trusting relationships, and use trauma-informed approaches to support young people through challenges, milestones, and moments of personal growth.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Supporting Young People
Build positive, respectful relationships that promote dignity, independence, and choice.
- Encourage young people to take part in decisions about their routines, activities, and future.
- Promote physical and emotional wellbeing.
- Support hobbies, cultural activities, and opportunities that build confidence and self-esteem.
- Assist young people with animal care routines, helping them develop nurturing skills and confidence.
Providing Individualised Support
- Deliver person-centred support tailored to each young person’s needs.
- Meet religious, cultural, dietary, medical, and additional learning requirements.
- Use trauma-informed practice to help young people navigate challenges.
- Encourage positive behaviour, responsibility, and engagement in education, training, or work.
- Support access to community resources and appointments.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with families, schools, social workers, and other agencies.
Creating a Safe, Homely Environment
- Contribute to a welcoming home by completing household tasks and supporting independent living skills.
- Following risk assessments and reporting concerns.
- Help maintain a positive, safe environment where young people can flourish.
Being Part of a Strong Team
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain a supportive team culture.
- Keep accurate documentation in line with CIW and organisational requirements.
- Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and maintain confidentiality.
- Participate in supervision, meetings, audits, and training.
- Commit to ongoing professional development, including training such as animal care or trauma-informed practice.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Level 2 QCF/NVQ in Health and Social Care, Youth Work, or willingness to work towards it
- Experience supporting children/young people, including those with challenging behaviours
- Knowledge of safeguarding
- Knowledge of ACEs
- Strong communication, emotional resilience, and ability to build trust
- Ability to deliver trauma-informed, person-centred support
- Good organisational skills and IT literacy
- Ability to maintain clear and accurate written records
Desirable:
- First Aid
- Training in trauma-informed practice
- Experience working within policies, procedures, or risk frameworks
- Experience collaborating with families, schools, and professionals
Special Requirements
- Enhanced DBS and registration with the Update Service
- Flexibility to work a rota including evenings, weekends, nights, and sleep-ins
- Commitment to CIW standards and compliance
