Yoga is for flexible people…

April Fools! 🤭

Truth is, yoga is for everyone: every body, every shape, every level of experience.

You don’t have to be flexible to come to yoga… you come to meet yourself exactly where you are. Some days that might mean stretching, some days it might mean resting. Some days, it's all about breathwork; other days, it’s a mindful walk in the grass. Sometimes you’ll build strength, sometimes you’ll find softness.

Though flexible people might be drawn to yoga at first because it feels familiar, they quickly discover that the practice offers so much more: breathwork, mindfulness, meditation, and even life guidance rooted in sacred texts. Over time, it becomes less about what your body can do and more about the relationship you build with your body and your mind.

Yoga is really about connection.

Flexibility might come along the way, but it’s not the point.

Body and mind. Breath and movement. The busy outside world and the quiet space within.

It’s your time to pause, to listen, to explore, without judgment, without pressure.

So no, you don’t have to be flexible to do yoga!

✨ Yoga Philosophy off the Mat: Aparigraha ✨
Aparigraha, the practice of non-attachment and non-greed, is one of the yamas in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, guiding how we relate to the world around us. At its core, it invites us to loosen our grip, not just on material things, but on the stories we attach to them. It asks: do we own our possessions, or do they quietly own us?

Letting go isn’t always easy. This week, I said goodbye to something I held onto for a long time, not just for its usefulness, but for what it represented. Identity. Memories. A sense of safety. Releasing it felt like peeling back a layer of who I thought I was.

And that’s where the deeper practice lies.

Aparigraha isn’t just about clearing out closets or decluttering shelves. It’s about gently questioning the identities we cling to. The roles, labels, and narratives that feel so solid, but may no longer serve us.

Who are we without them?

There’s a quiet freedom in that question.

As I reflect today, I’m seeing how this moment of letting go aligns so beautifully with the shift into spring, a season of renewal, new life, and fresh beginnings. Nature doesn’t cling to what has passed. It releases, cycles, and begins again.

Maybe we can too.

Holding a little more lightly.
Trusting a little more deeply.
Making space for what’s next.

🌱 And with the seasons, we grow. We breathe. We learn 🌱

As we approach the Spring Equinox, Nature calls us to reconnect with our senses and embrace new life and energy.

I'm thrilled to be hosting the first of a series of seasonal yoga retreats, right here in our cosy Garden Room in Newport Memorial Hall, on Sunday 29th March 4-7pm.

This retreat is for those who feel called to a slower, deeper practice, where we dive into yoga, breathwork, and the flow of the season, while also making space for meditation, yin/restorative, and journaling. An afternoon where nothing is rushed and we honour the arrival of Spring together. 🌱

✨ Celebrating the women in my life today, and every day ✨

Mentor, tutor, and educator in all things yoga.
Thank you for your humble guidance, and for teaching us to empower and support everyone who walks through our doors and onto a mat.
Thank you for encouraging us to question, not to accept everything as absolute truth, and to acknowledge the challenges of our times while navigating yoga within a patriarchal world shaped by deep inequalities.
You bring the wisdom of ancient teachings while keeping the practice thoughtful, grounded, and inclusive.

And… thank you for making it fun too!

You're an inspiration 🙏

🌱 Behind the Yoga Class - What I Learned This Week 🌱

Patanjali defines yoga as "the stilling or controlling of the modifications or fluctuations of the mind."

योगश्चित्तवृत्तिनिरोधः
yogas chitta vritti nirodha

This week, the fluctuations (vritti) have been intense, taking over my mind more than I realised. Before I knew it, I found myself in the ancient woods of Ty Canol, and in an instant, I hit my knee on a rock. The sharp, intense pain that followed forced me to pause and surrender to the injury. It was a lesson, a reminder to step out of the mental noise and back into my physical body (in a very painful way!).

Just hours after the injury, I was teaching classes, and the experience was humbling. It forced me to confront the need to accept the injury, let go of control, and adapt. I had to shift my perspective, not only in how I moved, but in how I guided others. Yoga, in that moment, became about surrendering to what was, rather than forcing what I wanted.

This weekend, I've been tending to my physical body, giving it space to rest, heal, and truly listen. Not as another task on the to-do list, but as a conscious practice of connection. We often forget to honour our bodies or we take them for granted. Coming back to the physical realm, the anamaya kosha, feels timely and necessary.

Sometimes, the grounding and magic of yoga doesn’t happen on the mat. What have you found helps you ground yourself back in the physical world?

🧘 Behind the Yoga Class: What I've Learnt this Week 🧘

This Winter has felt especially long and stormy for many of us, in ways we can’t always put into words. Whether it's the energy of the year of the Snake (which ends today, yay!) or the way Winter can bring out our shadows, it's been a season of challenge for many.

This week in class, we’ve been leaning into restorative yoga, giving ourselves permission to soften, release, and take a breath. I’ve heard so many beautiful reflections from students at the end of class:

"I feel so relaxed, I could just fall asleep right now."
"Can I stay longer? This feels so good."
"I came in feeling sketchy, but now I feel so grounded."

These moments make my heart sing. It’s a privilege to guide such a journey 🙏

🌙 This Sunday, 5:30-7pm, I’m inviting you to dive even deeper into that softness and stillness in our monthly Slow Sunday Yin Yoga. With more time and space to unwind, we’ll focus on the Anahata (heart chakra), the energy centre for love, compassion, and connection.

Through gentle stretches for the chest, upper back, and shoulders, we’ll create space both physically and energetically, allowing the heart to open. We’ll finish with a deeply restorative Yoga Nidra, leaving you feeling grounded, restored, and deeply relaxed.

Get in touch now to join the Slow Sunday Yin Yoga - All welcome

Behind the Yoga Class: What I’ve Learned This Week

This week, I’ve been reflecting on something that feels just as important as the movement itself: the friendships forming quietly on the mats, week after week.

When people first arrive, they often come for mobility, strength, flexibility, relaxation… and yes, those things absolutely grow. But over time, something else is being nurtured. Conversations before class. Laughter as we set up our mats. Checking in when someone’s been away. The small, consistent weaving together of community.

There’s a rhythm to it. Seeing the same faces each week. Moving through winter sluggishness, busy work seasons, life’s ups and downs, side by side.

One of my students sent me this message recently:

“I like Mondays! I thoroughly enjoyed yoga. Aside from the obvious mobility gains, I really benefit from the shared practice and also the friendship that your class provides. I would say that this is a significant factor in my stopping smoking too.”

I had to pause when I read that.

Because this is the part you can’t stream.
You can’t download community.
You can’t replicate the steady encouragement of the same group of people showing up for you, and with you, every single week.

The shared practice becomes accountability. Belonging. Regulation. A place where nervous systems soften together. Where healthier choices feel more possible because you don’t feel alone in them.

There is something profoundly powerful about being witnessed in your consistency. About knowing someone will notice if you’re not there. About hearing “see you next week” and meaning it.

This is why I value in-person spaces so deeply. Not just for the yoga, but for the friendships. The support. The quiet transformation that happens when community is nurtured over time.

It’s never just about the poses. It’s about the people 💚

To think I used to fear winter and run away from it.

Same way I used to fear solitude and run away from it.

(In both case, all I wanted
was to be crushed by a constant, warm weight.
It was the only way I knew how to feel safe)

But here I am, hip-deep in February,
and finding the most unlikely salvation in its grip.

Nobody ever told me about the lightness of winter!
