Just today I was ambushed by another magic wand breastfeeding solution;
‘If you just do this you will not suffer X, Y, Z’
It gave me pause for a moment before I remembered I’ve been around long enough to have seen and tried enough magic wands to know they don’t work and anyone who claims to have one should be dismissed.
They seem to come in two forms
The secret method ‘just pay me and I’ll tell you the secret solution to all your problems’
Or
The technical magic fix ‘ your baby has X, you just need to do Y and all your problems will be solved’
When we’re desperate (and when we want to breastfeed and it isn’t going well we’re very desperate) we are tempted by both of these. If the cost of one or the accessibility of the other feels achievable then we want to just try it.
Maybe it’s the answer……
I’m here to tell you it isn’t. There’s no magic solutions, no easy answers
