Summer is here and while you're reaching for your sunglasses, here's something worth knowing ☀️
UV rays don't just damage your skin, they can damage your eyes too.
Long-term UV exposure is linked to cataracts, macular degeneration and other serious eye conditions.
So what should you look for in a good pair of sunglasses?
Choose sunnies that have:
- CE mark or UV400 rating
- A wraparound or close-fitting style for maximum protection

Remember that darker lenses aren't always better, it's the UV rating that counts and that even on cloudy days, UV rays get through!
Protect your eyes this summer. 🕶️

Hayfever season is here and your eyes are feeling it!
Itchy, red, watery or puffy eyes are one of the most common symptoms of hayfever and for many people they can be just as uncomfortable as the sneezing and sniffling.
A few things that can help:
- Wrap-around sunglasses outdoors to reduce pollen contact
- Avoid rubbing your eyes, it only makes the irritation worse
- Cold compresses to help soothe swelling
- Antihistamine eye drops can be very effective — ask us for advice
- If you wear contact lenses, daily disposables can be better during high pollen season
If your eyes are really struggling, don't just put up with it. Pop in and have a chat with us, there's plenty of advice we can give.

- You're getting more headaches than usual
- You're squinting to read signs or screens
- Your eyes feel tired or strained by the end of the day
- You're holding your phone closer — or further away — than you used to
- It's been more than two years since your last exam.
Sound familiar? Don't ignore the signs.
Many vision problems are easy to correct but only if we know about them.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, we want to shine a light on one piece of a much bigger picture.
Mental health is complex and affected by so many different factors in life.
But research from organisations including the Macular Society and RNIB shows that sight loss and untreated vision problems can be a significant (and often overlooked) contributor to poor mental wellbeing.
Difficulty reading, struggling to recognise faces or losing independence can affect confidence and quality of life.
And worrying about your eyesight, without knowing what's wrong, can add to that burden.
The positive news is that many eye conditions are treatable, especially when caught early.
If your vision is something that's been on your mind, we're here.
