Heart failure occurs when the heart is no longer able to pump blood around the body properly. It can cause breathlessness, swollen feet and ankles, and tiredness. In about half of patients with heart failure, one measure of the heart’s pumping function, called the ‘ejection fraction’, is normal. This type of heart failure is called heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, or HFpEF.

The UK HFpEF registry are aiming to improve the quality of life and outcomes of patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction in the future

Do you suffer with Heartburn, indigestion or acid reflux, or know someone that does?

Heartburn, indigestion and acid reflux are common symptoms. They can cause daily discomfort and sometimes need long-term medication (e.g. Omeprazole or Gaviscon). In rare cases, these symptoms can lead to more serious health problems.

To improve care for people with heartburn, indigestion and acid reflux, the University of Cambridge, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Queen Mary University of London are working with the NHS to set up Heartburn Health.

More than 80,000 participants join RRDN-supported studies.

More than 82,500 participants were recruited to more than 1,000 NIHR South Central RRDN supported studies in 2024/25, new figures show.

The data is from Thames Valley and South Midlands and Wessex CRNs, from April 2024 to September 2024 and the new South Central Regional Research Delivery Network from September 2024 to March 2025.

National data also shows:
• In 2024/25, over 1 million participants engaged in over 4,000 studies delivered by the NHS and social care sector and supported by the NIHR
• Studies took place in a variety of settings including hospitals, GP practices and homes
• Commercial studies supported by the NIHR recruited 37,868 people. For every person who participated in these commercial studies, the NHS received, on average, £31,259
• 1,626 GP practices in England recruited participants to NIHR-supported studies. This represents 25% of all practices in England. Research in GP practices continues to be a key location to enrol the public in research, ensuring research is delivered in the community
• More than 6.5 million participants have been recruited to research during the past 5 years in England with support from the NIHR RDN. Approximately 14.8 million participants have been recruited since 2010/11.
