Sunny Days, Safe Eyes ☀️🕶️
Bright sunshine + heat can do more than make you squint. UV rays increase risk of cataracts, macular damage, and even skin cancer on your eyelids.
Our opticians’ top tips for eye safety this summer:
• Wear 100% UV-blocking sunglasses – Look for “UV400” or “100% UVA/UVB protection”. Cheap tints without UV filters can actually let more UV in.
• Add a wide-brim hat – Blocks up to 50% of UV that sneaks around your frames.
• Stay hydrated – Dry eyes get worse in heat. Use preservative-free artificial tears if needed.
• Never look directly at the sun – Even briefly during an eclipse or reflection off water/sand.
• Polarised lenses for glare – Essential for driving, beach days, and water sports.
• Kids need protection too – Young eyes let in more UV. Start the sunglasses habit early.
