Learning su***de-intervention skills with us is enjoyable! While we always treat the topic with the sensitivity and respect it deserves, we believe that it is equally important that you enjoy your two days in the training room with us, and that they don't feel 'heavy'.
Afterall, you are much more likley to remeber the skills you learnt from an enjoyable training experience - and that's what it is all about!
With over 40 years of research and evidence-base behind it, the ASIST su***de-intervention model looks after the 6 common elements of a successful intervention, so that we can focus on the individial aspects of the person in front of us.
One of the things we pride ourselves on when delivering ASIST su***de-intervention training is ensuring it is a highly interactive learning experience.
Beyond covering the theory of intervention, we spend a lot of time discussing the 'what-ifs' that people commonly worry about, and practicing our new skills through group simulations and paired role-plays. This is where confidence is really boosted 🚀
Some who attend our ASIST workshops have been working around su***de and mental health support for some time. As experienced practitioners, the framework and 6-step model we teach with ASIST really helps to give structure, reassurance and boosts confidence!
Feeling privileged to have contributed to the ever-growing network of ASIST su***de-intervention trained colleagues working across Barry with the Vale of Glamorgan Council recently.
Look out for some of their feedback and testimonials over the coming weeks 😀
From learning how to spot 'Invitations' through to confirming the details of a persons 'Safety Plan', the 6-step intervenion model we teach in ASIST will give you a clear framework to supporting others with their thoughts of su***de.
But ASIST is so much more.
We also examine our own beliefs, attitudes and experiences - consdiering how these might be helping or hidering our support with others; we run simulations and practice to ensure your confidence in using these skills in the real world; we think about self-care and looking after ourselves as practitioners, as well as giving throught to how we connect-up our su***de safer communities post-training.

Believe it or not, joining us in the training room for 2 days of su***de intervetion skills development can be fun (or "jolly" as this attendee put it!) 😊
While there's no getting away from the seriousness of the topic we are here to learn about, our ethos is that training you enjoy, is training you remeber.

The Wellbeing Guy launched in 2017 with the aim of delivering mental health interventions & su***de intervention training, to help increase levels of resilience and normalise conversations about mental health across Wales and the South-West.
Following a 10 year career in disability and 1:1 mental health practitioner work, I discovered a passion for taking these messages out in to the community, supporting private organisations, housing associations, schools, universities and more to develop their own mental health toolkits and implement their own su***de-safer communities through energising and engaging training.
I have experience of working 1:1 with people to develop their own awareness and strategies to manage their mental health, as well as delivering various internally accredited staff training programmes such as Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), Applied Su***de Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and safeTALK - Su***de Alertness to name but a few. I’m also a certified NLP Practitioner and love coaching clients towards achieving their goals, and balancing their wellbeing.
Currently my work with The Wellbeing Guy is focusing on su***de prevention, both through our open and in-house ASIST (su***de intevention skills) training, and the running of the open safeTALK su***de alertness talks for communities. Interested in hosting a talk for your community? Get in touch with me on hello@thewellbeingguy.co.uk!
