Carers IW

Carers IW We offer a range of services and support to unpaid adult carers of adults. Please ring us on 533173 and leave us a message.

Carers IW is based at the Riverside in Newport

We offer a range of services and support to unpaid adult carers of adults. The Carers IW team provides information, support and advocacy to adults who look after another adult. They might be caring for a parent, partner or friend with physical or mental health needs. Alternatively it may be that the person they care for has for example has a substance misuse problem and needs to be supported on an occasional basis. We work with carers who either live on the Isle of Wight or care for someone living on the Isle of Wight. As a charity, we have supported carers for 30 years. We are here to work with carers to ensure they receive the right support and information at the right time, enabling Carers to carry on looking after their relatives, friends and neighbours. If you require information about your role as a carer please do ring us.

Temporary change to mental health support line hours

Due to staffing pressures, the hours of the Access to Intervention Mental Health Crisis Line will be temporarily reduced over the next two weeks. An alert has been posted on the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust website and shared on social media to help make sure the message reaches as many people as possible.
This will ensure people know where to go for urgent mental health support, rather than attending the Emergency Department. Thank you for your support in helping us spread this important message.

The Universal Credit Bill passed in Parliament last night and will become law.

We remain very concerned about changes the Bill makes to the health element of UC for new claimants from April 2026. We’ll continue to challenge these changes given the financial impact they'll have.

Thanks to tireless campaigning from disabled people and carers in recent months, the Bill does NOT contain any immediate changes to Personal Independence Payment or to carers’ benefits.

The original Bill would have seen 150,000 carers lose their benefits by 2029/30.

We are pleased the Government has committed to involve unpaid carers in the 'PIP review' that it is undertaking in the coming months. We will continue to campaign to raise awareness of the intolerable levels of poverty that carers face.

We’re still here for you. It will take time to change the law and move our functions. During this time - we remain open. We will listen to your experiences of services and share your feedback with NHS leaders. Thank you for your continued support.
