St John Ambulance - Isle of Wight

St John Ambulance - Isle of Wight We are the charity that steps forward in the moments that matter, to save lives and keep our communi

St John Ambulance is a modern and dynamic charity, but we are privileged to have a long and diverse heritage underpinning our vital work. We have been providing first aid and first aid training for over 140 years. However, our enduring story goes all the way back to 11th century Jerusalem where the first Knights of St John set up a hospital to provide free medical care to sick pilgrims. Since then we have evolved as an Order and as an organisation, devoted to our communities. Our volunteer uniform still proudly displays the eight-pointed cross worn by those first Knights of St John.

Who are we?

St John Ambulance is an international first aid organisation with roots reaching back to the 1090s in Jerusalem! As part of the St John family, we represent the units on the Isle of Wight:

  • Newport Adults - adult first aider volunteers from around the island, we provide first aid cover to events all around the local area and train you to “be the difference” in your community.

  • Newport Cadets - aged from 10 to 17, cadets are a crucial part of the SJA family. With high quality first aid training and volunteer opportunities, becoming a Cadet is an incredible opportunity.

  • Newport Badgers - 7-10 years old, Badgers are already taking the first steps to becoming first aiders.
