I recently had the chance to make this Liverpool birthday cake with a twist; it was a vegan chocolate cake, with cookies and cream filling and vanilla frosting.

Vegan baking is not my strongest point and in have never made a chocolate vegan cake before. And with that all those pesky NATs (negative automatic thoughts) came up again; ‘it won’t be good enough’ ‘it won’t be perfect’ ‘I’ll fail at it’ etc. which in my books was all the more reason to try it and challenge those thoughts!
Some sponges I made initially were definitely close to fails structurally (but tasted good and made a good opportunity to share them with other friends and family to connect), but by the end of the day the cake wasn’t terrible, it wasn’t a fail, the scarps tasted good and I had fun whisky challenging my thoughts 💭

So here’s a little sign to not believe everything you think and perhaps challenging NATs can be fun 🎂

I’ve hit an exciting milestone in my practice! Within the last month I hit 1000 clinical counselling/therapy hours! 🎉

Since starting my counselling/therapy training my practice has changed and developed as I’ve grown as a practitioner.
I’ve learnt to become much more confident and comfortable in trusting the process as well as being confident in my therapeutic style; I love to sit in silence, to engage in Socratic questioning, to challenge and bring humour and self disclosure into the room when appropriate.

I’ve learnt to love working from a CBT foundation more and more bringing structure and the focus on individual meaning and exploring whether these help us feel grounded in our realties. Something that has also enhanced my pluralistic practice and philosophy that all clients are individual and need different things at different times.

But I’ve mostly felt grateful. Grateful that everyday, even when it feels hard, I get to work in a job where there is connection and shared and reciprocal learning and understanding in the therapy room.

Researchers from the University of Oxford want to understand the premonitory urge (i.e. the sensation that precedes tics) and how this differs with comorbidities (e.g. autism, ADHD).

Previous research has suggested that different groups experience the premonitory urge differently, such as those with additional comorbidities (e.g. ADHD, autism and OCD). Hence, it is important to explore the experience of the premonitory urge in groups of individuals with different comorbidities because the experience could differ, which will have an impact on how treatment is delivered to support people with tics.
