Did you know we offer art therapy at Mind in Gwent?

You don’t need to be “good at art” to benefit from it – art therapy is simply about using creativity as a way to express yourself in a safe, welcoming space.

🖌️ Art materials are always available, and you can choose whether or not to use them.
💬 Talk as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.
🧠 Particularly helpful for people experiencing anxiety, depression or the effects of trauma.
🌈 Suitable for adults and children, including people who are neurodiverse, have learning difficulties, or are living with dementia. Art therapy can offer forms of non-verbal communication that traditional talking therapies may not.

Sessions are led by an HCPC Registered Art Therapist with immediate availability.

Just a little update to say I’m still here (and now pink)🙋‍♀️ but social media/sharing helpful content is much lower down the priorities list while studying!

I’m about half way through my CBT psychotherapy training and it’s intense… but I’m loving every moment of it! And I am making time to engage in self-care (mainly windsurfing and getting to the beach 🏖️ so a little bit less baking🙈)

What training as a CBT therapist is making me do is it’s making me challenge my own insecurities and belief systems a lot more frequently than I use to. I’ve challenged the concerns and worries about what other people think, about being good enough, rules about perfectionism and rigid work ethics; and since I’ve joined a salsa class (and returned every week with behavioural experiments in mind to test what people think about me and spoiler it’s nothing negative), I’ve got back into windsurfing (and challenged the perfectionism rules to actually leg myself fail) and started to question what rules apply across my working life actually serve me and mg clients and what old beliefs and rules around work can be let go of.

I recently had the chance to make this Liverpool birthday cake with a twist; it was a vegan chocolate cake, with cookies and cream filling and vanilla frosting.

Vegan baking is not my strongest point and in have never made a chocolate vegan cake before. And with that all those pesky NATs (negative automatic thoughts) came up again; ‘it won’t be good enough’ ‘it won’t be perfect’ ‘I’ll fail at it’ etc. which in my books was all the more reason to try it and challenge those thoughts!
Some sponges I made initially were definitely close to fails structurally (but tasted good and made a good opportunity to share them with other friends and family to connect), but by the end of the day the cake wasn’t terrible, it wasn’t a fail, the scarps tasted good and I had fun whisky challenging my thoughts 💭

So here’s a little sign to not believe everything you think and perhaps challenging NATs can be fun 🎂

I’ve hit an exciting milestone in my practice! Within the last month I hit 1000 clinical counselling/therapy hours! 🎉

Since starting my counselling/therapy training my practice has changed and developed as I’ve grown as a practitioner.
I’ve learnt to become much more confident and comfortable in trusting the process as well as being confident in my therapeutic style; I love to sit in silence, to engage in Socratic questioning, to challenge and bring humour and self disclosure into the room when appropriate.

I’ve learnt to love working from a CBT foundation more and more bringing structure and the focus on individual meaning and exploring whether these help us feel grounded in our realties. Something that has also enhanced my pluralistic practice and philosophy that all clients are individual and need different things at different times.

But I’ve mostly felt grateful. Grateful that everyday, even when it feels hard, I get to work in a job where there is connection and shared and reciprocal learning and understanding in the therapy room.
