Wycherley’s Dental Practice, located at 49 High Street, Newport, has a story as unique as the smiles we care for.
The building itself is a classic 17th-century infill house — a “gap filler” constructed to snugly fit between two much older buildings in bustling Newport. This clever use of space was common in historic market towns, where every inch was valuable.
Before becoming a dental clinic, the building had a long life including as a cheesemonger’s shop, serving the local community with fresh produce.
In 2010, Dr. Ashok Jakhu transformed this historic space into a “squat” dental practice — meaning it was a brand new dental clinic set up in a building that had never been a dental practice before. After careful renovation that preserved original features like fireplaces and period details, Wycherley’s Dental Practice opened its doors in 2012, combining history with modern, expert dental care.
The name “Wycherley’s” pays tribute to a notable local family, connecting the practice to Newport’s rich heritage.
Today, Wycherley’s proudly offers top-quality dentistry in a building where tradition meets innovation — a true gem in the heart of Newport.
