Richards and Son was established as an Independent Funeral Director in 1972 by Archie Richards, with Chapels of Rest in Newquay and Perranporth, also covering Indian Queens. In recent years Archie has taken more of a back seat and is proud to have his grandson, Andrew, a third generation of the family, now running the business. Andrew started working for the business at the age of 15 and at age 21 he was one of the youngest Funeral Directors in Cornwall, learning his trade from the ground up, from his father and grandfather, drawing from their years of experience. Since then, Andrew has continued to grow the business by combining his traditional values with a modern outlook to change and progress with a new generation. She is also our female Funeral Director on the team. Karen started working for A.C. Richards and Son in 2015 and is now a valued member of the firm as we feel that a female approach can offer additional sensitivity in certain situations. Richards and Son are the official Funeral Directors for the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust and this is a role that Andrew has fulfilled for over 26 years. Andrew ensures that a professional and sensitive service is provided at all times, dealing with bereaved families from all over Cornwall. As members of the Society of Allied Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF) we adhere to a strict code of practice, copies of which are available on request for your peace of mind. Richards and Son perform a dignified and professional service and our Funeral Directors are always available in time of need. We provide emotional support as well as expert and practical advice and are here to help you cope and adjust to your bereavement. When someone passes away it generally comes as a great shock and the first few days following the death of a loved one are both busy and confusing for friends and family alike. As your Funeral Director we are here to help and advise you in making all the arrangements which meet your personal needs as well as the wishes of the deceased.

Christine will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Remembering Lloyd Kent of Indian Queens.
Lloyd passed away peacefully at home on Saturday 19th July 2025, aged 76.
A dedicated husband, father, grandad, family man, retired tradesman and business owner.
Lloyd was known for his quiet strength, good humour and deep care for those around him.
Affectionately called “Lovely Lloyd” by the NHS staff and home care professionals,
who supported him in later years, he’s left a lasting impression through kindness, hard work and integrity.
He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
