POETRY
It’s World Poetry Day today and so I thought I’d share a few of my fave collections that I reach for time and time again when it comes to exploring the wild ride that is becoming a parent.
Poetry has a way of nourishing our minds creatively without the weight of reading a whole book. Ideal if you’re sleep deprived but love to read.
We can dip in, read a poem or two, have our thoughts tickled, perhaps be moved, chuckle at the all too familiar-ness of it and feel so completely seen in a few short lines.
Some of my favourite maternal creative journaling sessions are the ones where we make poems… I’ve had mums stand up and read pages of poetry they didn’t know they had in them… discovering just what a wonderful medium it is for writing about your experience without the need for sense making. Simply enjoying creating word soup and seeing what falls out.
What’s your relationship to poetry?
