So, the mind! And the body! And anxiety. If you feel a sense of anxiety in the body, particularly when awakening in the morning, then there are a number of things you can do, thank goodness.

One thing, don't follow any anxious thoughts, literally you can replace them with better thoughts. Like something good in your life.

You can also breathe smooth long breaths into the chest area & allow the belly to expand too.

And...notice if there is tension being held in your body. If so, breathe to that area too, with your intention & relax & soften.

Just do what you can, regularly.

If you want to go more deeply with understanding the dynamic of anxiety, there is plenty of information in my course.

What food then is best to lower anxiety? Or what to avoid?

is regarded as excess vata (air and ether) in . So you want the opposite qualities to that. In simple terms, warm, moist, oily, grounding foods. Stews, soups, porridge, roast root veg like beetroots, carrots, parsnips, sweet potato, squash... mung beans or urad dal, rice, quinoa, sesame oil, tahini, houmous, avocado. Good warming spices like ginger, cumin, cinnamon, cardamom.

Not dry, cold, raw, rough... !

So what yoga should I do if I have anxiety? And want to lower/overcome it?

Well in all honesty, if you practice yoga with smooth comfortable breath, then most yoga is going to help you. Better still if your breath is what is called 'throat' or 'ujjayi, breath - which is specific for lowering anxiety. I will go over this in a future video. Stay tuned to this page.

Physically, you want to do movements and positions that you can do with ease co-ordinated mindfully with throat breathing. And in very general terms grounding floor movements/positions. Target the lower part of the body with forward bends and twists. You could also lay on your back with legs on a chair - a great way to relax for 5-10 minutes and ground (see photo).

There is of course more detail in the course, with videos to follow along to https://intoyogaandnature.co.uk/online-yoga-and-nature-courses/. Or just get in touch for a private session.

So if you tried being - attentive to all actions as I suggested yesterday...and found it hard, then you're not alone...its not easy necessarily. But in a sense its also simple to do in a short moment.. and those short moments are a 1st step. Congratulate yourself... take another moment to do the same and gradually extend them.

Other ideas... find particular times you will be attentive to the present moment with your body. Say on waking, just before sleep, every meal time or other specific moment.

Videos are coming...with more tips and techniques. In the meantime do enjoy some vistas of the in today.
